Ruoka-avun etsiminen digitaalisessa ympäristössä

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää, miten ruoka-apua tarvitsevat henkilöt etsivät tietoa tarjolla olevasta ruoka-avusta ja millaisena Ruoka-apu.fi -verkkopalvelua pidetään käytettävyyden, saavutettavuuden ja hyödyllisyyden kannalta. Ruoka-apu.fi on valtakunnallinen verkkopalvelu ruoka-apua tarjoaville organisaatiolle ja ruoka-apua etsiville henkilöille. Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantaja oli Osallistava yhteisö -hanke, joka kehittää, tuottaa ja ylläpitää Ruoka-apu.fi -verkkopalvelua. Lisäksi opinnäytetyössä pyrittiin saamaan tietoa ruoka-apua tarvitsevien henkilöiden digiosallisuudesta ja koronaviruspandemian vaikutuksista ruoka-avun saatavuuteen.

Opinnäytetyön tietoperustassa kuvailtiin ruoka-aputoimintaa. Teoreettisessa viitekehyksessä keskityttiin digitaalisen kuilun ja erityisesti digitaalisen osallisuuden käsitteisiin ja tarkasteltiin digitaalisten palveluiden käytettävyyttä haavoittuvien ihmisryhmien kannalta. Opinnäytetyössä myös avattiin palvelumuotoilun ja arviointitutkimuksen menetelmiä asiakasymmärryksen lisääjinä. Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin teemahaastatteluina haastattelemalla 13 henkilöä neljän eri ruoka-aputoimijan tiloissa. Aineisto analysoitiin temaattisen analyysin keinoin.

Haastatteluaineistosta nousi esille erityisesti se, että haastateltavat ovat löytäneet tarvitsemansa ruoka-avun epävirallisista tietokanavista eli kuulopuheiden perusteella. Tätä pidettiin myös parhaana tapana saada tietoa. Suurimmalla osalla haastateltavista digitaidot olivat puutteellisia eikä heillä ollut käytössään älylaitetta. Haastateltavat suhtautuivat digitaitojen opettelemiseen myönteisesti. Valtaosa haastatelluista kertoi etsineensä ruoka apua koronapandemian aikana ja noin puolet heistä koki palvelujen huonontuneen.

Haastateltavat pitivät Ruoka-apu.fi -verkkopalvelua enimmäkseen informatiivisena ja selkeänä. Haastateltavilta saatuja kehitysehdotuksia verkkopalvelun käytettävyyden lisäämiseksi on hyödynnetty opinnäytetyöprosessin aikana ja palvelun teknisiin yksityiskohtiin tehty muutoksia. Opinnäytetyön tulosten perusteella voidaan sanoa, että ruoka-avun tarvitsijoiden digiosallisuus ei toteudu ja digitukea tulisi olla tarvittaessa helposti saatavilla.

The aim of this thesis was to find out how people in need of food aid search for information about the food aid on offer and how usable, accessible and useful the Ruoka-apu.fi online service is considered. Ruoka-apu.fi is a nationwide online service for organizations providing food aid and for people seeking food aid. This thesis was commissioned by the Osallistava yhteisö (Participating Community) project which develops, produces, and maintains the Ruoka-apu.fi online service. In addition, the thesis sought to obtain information on the digital inclusion of people in need of food aid and the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the availability of food aid.

The theoretical section of the thesis describes food aid activities. The theoretical framework focuses on the concepts of the digital divide, and in particular digital inclusion, and examines the usability of digital services for vulnerable groups. The methods of service design and evaluation research are also examined in the thesis as enhancers of customer understanding. The empirical part of the thesis was carried out as thematic interviews by interviewing 13 people on the premises of four different food aid operators. The data was analyzed by means of thematic analysis.

In particular, the interview data highlighted the fact that the interviewees have found the food aid they need through informal information channels, id est on the basis of hearsay. This was also considered the best way to get information. Most of the interviewees had inadequate digital skills and did not have access to a smart device. The respondents were positive about learning digital skills. The majority of those interviewed said they had sought food aid during the corona pandemic and about half of them felt that services had deteriorated. The interviewees mostly found the Ruoka-apu.fi online service informative and clear.

Development suggestions received from the interviewees to increase the usability of the online service have been utilized during the thesis process and changes have been made to the technical details of the service. Based on the outcome of the thesis, it can be said that the digital participation of food aid users does not materialize and digital support should be easily available if necessary.
