Verkkoselainten vertailu ja HTML5-teknologian tuki

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on tutustua kolmen eri verkkoselaimeen. Tutkittavat verkkoselaimet ovat Mozillan Firefox, Googlen Chrome ja Microsoftin Internet Explorer. Opinnäytetyössä tutkitaan myös kuinka nämä selaimet tukevat HTML5-teknologiaa.

Opinnäytetyö selvittää verkkoselainten yhteistä historiaa ja niiden yleiset ominaisuudet. Verkkoselaimista tehdään myös tarkempi analyysi. Tämä sisältää kuvauksen selaimen kehittäjästä, selaimen kehityshistorian ja esittelyn selaimen ominaisuuksista.

Opinnäytetyössä esitellään isoimmat muutokset, joita HTML5 tuo nykyiseen HTML4.1-teknologiaan. Näitä muutoksia testattiin käyttämällä HTML5-testiä, joka löytyy osoitteesta http://html5test.com/. Kyseinen testi valittiin, koska sen pisteytys ei ole riippuvainen suoritettavan laitteen laskentatehosta. Testi antoi selvät tulokset verkkoselaimille ja testattavat ominaisuudet on selkeästi selitetty. Opinnäytetyössä käytetyn HTML5-testin on suunnitellut Niels Leenheer.

HTML5-testin tuloksista selvisi, että yksikään selain ei vielä täysin tue HTML5-teknologiaa. Mutta kaikki testatut selaimet tukevat tärkeimpiä HTML5-teknologian ominaisuuksia. Testatuista selaimista Google Chrome sai korkeimmat pisteet, Mozillan Firefox tuli toiseksi ja Microsoftin Internet Explorer kolmanneksi.

The purpose of the thesis was to compare three different browsers, i.e. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Microsoft Internet Explorer. The browsers’ support for HTML5 was also tested and compared. First, the browsers’ common history and features were studied. Each browser was analyzed individually, and the analysis includes a description of the respective browsers’ development history and features. The biggest changes that HTML5 has brought to the current HTML4.1 were tested using the HTML5 test which can be found from http://html5test.com/. This particular test was chosen because its point system does not rely on the device’s hardware. The test gave clear results for the browsers, and the tested features were explained clearly by the developer of the HTML5 test, Niels Leenheer. The HTML5 test showed than none of the current browsers fully support HTML5. But all the tested browsers did support the most important HTML5 features. The test results showed that Google Chrome scored the highest points, Mozilla Firefox was second and Microsoft Internet Explorer came third.
