Lapsen tukeminen perheen aikuisen sairastuessa syöpään : kuvaileva kirjallisuuskatsaus

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli löytää tietoa lapsien tuen tarpeesta, kun perheen toinen aikuinen sairastaa syöpää. Työn toimeksiantaja toimi Etelä-Suomen syöpäyhdistys eli ESSY. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli lisätä tietoa lapsista, joiden toinen läheinen aikuinen sairastaa syöpää. Opinnäytetyön tutkimuskysymys oli, minkälaista tukea perheiden alaikäiset lapset kaipaavat toisen aikuisen sairastuttua syöpään.

Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin kuvailevana kirjallisuuskatsauksena. Aineiston sisällönanalyysimenetelmänä käytettiin induktiivista sisällönanalyysiä. Aiemmasta tutkimusmateriaalista kerättiin tietoa, millaisia vaikutuksia perheen aikuisen syöpään sairastumisella on lapseen.

Opinnäytetyön teoriaosuudessa käsiteltiin syöpää, lapsen kehitystä sekä mielenterveyttä ja perheen tukemista. Perhe -käsitteen moninaisuuden vuoksi työn kohderyhmäksi valittiin perheet, joissa oli alle 18-vuotias lapsi tai lapsia. Opinnäytetyössä korostettiin perhelähtöistä tukemista.

Opinnäytetyön saatujen tulosten mukaan perheen aikuisen syöpään sairastumisella on sekä psyykkisiä että emotionaalisia vaikutuksia lapseen. Lisäksi perheen aikuisen sairastuminen syöpään voi aiheuttaa muutoksia lapsen käyttäytymisessä. Tulosten mukaan voitiin todeta, että sairastuneen aikuisen lisäksi perheen lapset tarvitsevat heillä kohdennettua tukea. Syövän kanssa työskenteleville ammattilaisille tulisi olla tarjolla lisäkoulutusta lapsen tukemiseen liittyen perheen kohdatessa syöpää.

The goal of the thesis was to find information about the need for support for children in families where another adult in the family suffers from cancer. The work was commissioned by the Southern Finland Cancer Society (ESSY). The purpose of the thesis was to increase information about children in families where another adult suffers from cancer. The research question of the thesis was what kind of support the children need when an adult in the family has cancer.

The thesis was carried out as a descriptive literature review. Inductive content analysis was used as the content analysis method. Information was collected from previous research material on the effects on the child in families where the adult suffers from cancer.

The theoretical part of the thesis dealt with cancer, child’s development and mental health and family support. Due to the diversity of the concept of family, families with a child or children under the age of 18 were chosen as the target group for the work. The emphasis in the thesis was on family-oriented support.

According to the results of the thesis, adult getting cancer in the family has both mental and emotional side effects. In addition, adult getting cancer in the family can cause changes in a child’s behavior. The results showed that in addition to the affected adult, the children in the family need targeted support. Professionals working with cancer should be provided with additional training in supporting the child in families facing cancer.
