Tukihenkilö- ja tukiperhetoiminnan merkitys - tukijoiden ja tuettavien kokemuksia tukisuhteista

Abstract

Opinnäytetyö käsittelee lastensuojelun avohuollon tukitoimin tuettuja tukisuhteita, joissa on sekä tukija että tuettava. Tukijoina toimivat vapaaehtoiset maallikkoauttajat, tukihenkilö tai tukiperhe. Tuettava on lastensuojelun avohuollon asiakas. Teoriaosuudessa onkin käsitelty lastensuojelua, lastensuojelun avohuoltoa, tukihenkilö- ja tukiperhetoimintaa eri näkökulmista sekä jonkin verran myös vapaaehtoistoimintaa. Tutkielman tarkoituksena on kuvata tukisuhteen osapuolten kokemuksia tukisuhteista; selvittää tukihenkilö- ja tukiperhetoimintaa mahdollisimman aidosti, sellaisena kuin se kokijoiden kuvaamana on. Työn tavoitteena on tunnistaa niitä merkityksiä, joita tukisuhteen osapuolet antavat toiminnalle. Näitä merkityksiä on pyritty tarkastelemaan myös tutkimalla heidän motivaatiotaan, tukisuhteen edellytyksiä sekä haastateltavien kokemuksia tukisuhteista.

Tutkielma toteutettiin laadullisin tutkimusmenetelmin. Opinnäytetyö tehtiin Vantaan kaupungille yhteistyössä Vantaan kaupungin tukihenkilö- ja tukiperhekoordinaattorin kanssa. Aineistonkeruumenetelmänä käytettiin teemahaastattelua ja analyysimenetelmänä teemoittelua. Yhdessä haastattelussa käytettiin teemahaastattelun sijaan eläytymismenetelmää leikin avulla, mutta pohjana toimi kuitenkin teemahaastattelun runko. Haastateltavia oli yhteensä seitsemän, joista kolme oli tukijoita ja neljä tuettavia. Haastatteluita oli yhteensä viisi, joista kaksi oli parihaastatteluita ja kolme yksilöhaastatteluita.

Merkitykset nousivat esiin kaikissa teemoissa, joihin aineistoa on jaoteltu. Vaikka haastateltava saattoi puhua motivaatiosta, niin samassa lauseessa tai samassa sanassa saattoi tiivistyä myös asian merkitys. Tutkimusongelmat onkin valittu sen mukaan, että ne kertoisivat merkityksistä eri näkökulmista, mutta myös niistä tekijöistä, jotka tekevät asiasta merkityksellisen. Myös haastateltavat valittiin sen mukaan, että he tarkastelisivat asioita eri näkökulmista.

Tutkielman aineiston mukaan tukisuhteet ovat yksilöllisiä ja muotoutuvat yksilöllisten tavoitteiden mukaan omanlaisikseen ihmissuhteiksi. Kaikki haastateltavat ovat viihtyneet omissa tukisuhteissaan ja, tukisuhteesta saatu apu ja tuki tuettaville nousivat useissa kohdin hyvin merkitykselliseksi heidän elämissään. Erityisesti annetun ja saadun ajan merkitys korostui monissa haastatteluissa. Tukijat kuvailivat sitä hyötyä, jota uskoo tukisuhteesta olevan tuettavalleen tai tuettavilleen ja, tuettavat kuvailivat saamaansa tukea. Myös erilaisen tekemisen merkitys nousi yllättävän suureen rooliin. Tukijat kuvasivat järjestävänsä erilaista virikkeellistä toimintaa ja tuettavat kuvasivat niitä kokemuksia, joita olivat erilaisesta toiminnasta saaneet. Monenlainen toiminta ja kokemukset laajentavat tuettavan kokemusmaailmaa. Hyöty suhteesta ei ollut lopulta ainoastaan tuettavalle vaan jollain tavalla koko hänen perheelleen.

The significance of support person and support family – supporters’ and customers’ experiences of support relations

The purpose of this thesis was to study support relations which are supported by child protection open care services. There are a supporter and a customer in the relations. Supporters are voluntary, normal persons who want to be support persons or want to start to be a support family. The other participants in relation are customers of child protection open care. In the theory part I am elaborating child protection, open care, support person and support family activity from different perspectives and some views on voluntary work. The purpose of the thesis is to describe the experiences of support relations; describe support person and support family activity truthfully, how participants see it. The aim of this thesis is to clarify significations that are given by the participants in support relations. I aim to clarify these significations by asking about the interviewees’ motivation, requirements of the relations and the interviewees’ experiences of the relationships.

The method of this thesis was qualitative. The study was made for the city of Vantaa in co-operation with the coordinator of support person and support family activities. Material was gathered by using theme interviews and it was analyzed by themes. Instead of theme interviews one of the interviews was carried out using of method of empathizing through play. The interview framework was used as a basis for the play. There were seven interviewees. Three of them were supporters and four of them were customers. There were five interviews of which two were interviews with couples and three were single interviews.

Significations had a major role in the all themes into which the material was divided. Although the interviewee was talking about motivation there can also be some speaking of significations in the same words or sentences. It is important that the research problems are such that the research questions clarify significations by other views. The interviewees were also chosen so that they would regard the themes from different viewpoints.

According to the results, support relationships are always individual and take their shapes with individual targets. All of the interviewees are thriving in their support relations. Support and help by the support relations was brought out in many situations and they were also significant factors in the interviewees’ lives. Especially the significance of the time given and received was highlighted in many interviews. Supporters described the support they gave the relations and customers told about the help that they received from their supporters. Also different acts that can be done were discussed and it had a surprisingly big role in the narrations. The supporters told about different acts that they had arranged and customers spoke about the experiences that they have from the activities. Various activities and experiences widens the customers’ worldview. The advantage from the support relationships was not only for the child customer but also the child’s whole family.
