Varhaiskasvatusta luontoympäristössä

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön aiheena oli Hämeenlinnan Ahveniston päiväkodin metsäryhmä Lumikot, jossa varhaiskasvatusta toteutetaan luontoympäristössä. Metsäryhmä Lumikot on yksi Hämeenlinnan alueella toimivista metsäryhmistä ja se on aloittanut toimintansa syksyllä 2011. Työn tavoitteena oli tuottaa ryhmän toimintaa kuvaava esite Ahveniston päiväkodin käyttöön. Esitteen kautta haluttiin tukea yksikön toimintaa vahvistamalla luontokasvatukseen pohjautuvan varhaiskasvatuksen tietouden lisääntymistä ja samalla innostaa uusia lapsiperheitä mukaan ryhmän toimintaan. Esite toteutettiin toiminnallisena opinnäytetyönä.

Esitteen tuottaminen edellytti toiminnan teoreettisiin lähtökohtiin perehtymistä sekä selvitysosuuden toteuttamista käytännön asiantuntijatiedon tavoittamiseksi. Työn teoreettisessa osuudessa tarkastelu rajattiin työn kohteena olevan metsäryhmän kontekstin mukaisesti varhaiskasvatuksen, outdoor education -toiminnan, luontokasvatuksen ja Case Forest -pedagogiikan teorioiden sekä luontoympäristön lapselle mahdollistaman varhaiskasvuympäristön käsittelyyn. Selvitysosuus toteutettiin laadullisella tutkimusmenetelmällä kohderyhmää haastattelemalla ja sen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, minkälaisia näkemyksiä metsäryhmä Lumikoiden toiminnassa mukana olevilla on toteutetusta toiminnasta. Kohderyhmä koostui päiväkodin henkilökunnan jäsenistä, ryhmän lapsista ja heidän vanhemmistaan.

Näiden kautta saatujen tulosten myötä mahdollistui luontoympäristössä toteutetun varhaiskasvatuksen kokonaisvaltaisemman käsityksen saaminen. Metsäryhmä Lumikoiden toiminta näyttäytyy lapsilähtöisenä ja monipuolisesti varhaiskasvatuksen tehtäviin ja tavoitteisiin vastaavana toimintana, jolle ryhmän varhaiskasvatusympäristönä toimiva luontoympäristö tarjoaa erinomaiset puitteet. Työn lopullisena tuotoksena syntyi monipuolisesti metsäryhmä Lumikoiden toimintaa kuvaava esite.

The topic of this thesis was the forest group Lumikot from Ahvenisto Day Care Centre in Hämeenlinna, where the early childhood education is carried out in nature environment. The forest group Lumikot is one of the forest groups in the Hämeenlinna region and it was established in autumn 2011. The aim of this thesis was to produce a brochure presenting the activities of the Lumikot group for the use of the Ahvenisto Day Care Centre. The brochure is to support the unit’s operation by enhancing the knowledge of early childhood education based on nature education and to encourage new families to join in. The brochure was carried out as practice-based thesis.

To produce the brochure, an examination of the theoretical background of the activity as well as a survey in order to gain practical professional knowledge was required. Considering the context of the forest group, the theoretical part of this thesis was limited to the theories of early childhood education, outdoor education, nature education and the Case Forest pedagogy - also addressing the early childhood growth environment provided by the nature environment. The survey part of this thesis was carried out using qualitative research method. Interviews were conducted among the target group which consisted of the personnel of the Ahvenisto Day Care Centre, the children of the Lumikot group and their parents. The purpose was to explore their views on the activities.

The results of these two parts enabled a comprehensive view on early childhood education carried out in nature environment. The activities of the forest group Lumikot appear child-oriented and diverse and correspond to the mission and objectives of early childhood education. The nature environment where the group works provides an ideal setting for these activities. The final product of the thesis is a brochure which offers a multifaceted presentation of the activities of the forest group Lumikot.
