This thesis I will talk about Bluetooth Low Energy which is the newest feature in Blue-tooth technology. Aim of the work is to identify how the new low energy technology works and get an idea how the market looks.
Bluetooth technology has been over 10 years in the market, nowadays the technology is in most phones. It suits well as file transfer and streaming of audio and video. But over the years, the demand has growth for small devices that uses sensors and has a need for low power consumption. Bluetooth 4.0 was released in 2010 with new specifications and the most important feature was the Bluetooth Low Energy. It is a low-energy technology that is meant for small devices that have limited energy lifetime. It also has a low response time.
In this work, I discuss the history of the Bluetooth and the Bluetooth Low Energy has come to the stage that it is now. I will go through the protocol stack for Bluetooth Low Energy and compare it with classic Bluetooth. I will tell about the industry that uses Bluetooth Low Energy. In last chapter I will describe products that have been launched and will be launched in 2013.
