Tilankäyttö viitotussa puheessa : Havaintoja viitotun puheen käyttäjien kommunikoinnista

Abstract

Opinnäytetyöni tavoite oli selvittää, kuinka viitottua puhetta kommunikaatiomenetelmänään käyttävät henkilöt käyttävät tilaa kommunikoinnissaan. Tilankäyttö päädyttiin rajaamaan osoituksiin, roolinvaihtoon, monisuuntaisiin verbaaleihin ja anaforiseen tilankäyttöön. Tutkielmassani anaforisella tilankäyttöllä tarkoitettiin sitä, kun viittoja rakentaa tilaan jonkinlaisen näyttämön asioista, paikantamalla viittomatilaan asioita, jotka eivät ole läsnä.

Menetelmänä käytettiin pääsääntöisesti havainnointia sekä tukena haastattelua. Havainnoitavina ja haastateltavina oli neljä viitottua puhetta kommunikaatiomenetelmänään käyttävää henkilöä. Havainnointi ja haastattelu toteutettiin lokakuussa 2012. Henkilöt valikoitiin informanteiksi siten, että mukana oli kaksi henkilöä, joilla on suomenkielisen taustan lisäksi myös viittomakielinen tausta ja kaksi henkilöä, joilla on suomenkielinen tausta.

Työn tilaaja oli Kuuloliitto ry ja työelämän ohjaaja oli Sirpa Laurén. Tutkielma tehtiin koska he tarvitsivat viitotusta puheesta enemmän tutkittua tietoa, joiden pohjalta heillä on mahdollisuus päivittää viitotun puheen suosituksia. Viitotun puheen suositukset tuotettiin Kuuloliiton viitotun puheen etäopetusprojekti Vipessä vuonna 2001-2004. Viitottu puhe on yksi viittomakielentulkin hallittavista kommunikaatiomenetelmistä. Näin ollen suositusten päivittäminen tuo hyödyn suoraa viittomakielentulkkausalalle. Tulkkikoulutuksessa suosituksia käytetään viitotun puheen opiskelussa.

Opinnäytetyöllä selvitettiin, kuinka viitotulla puheella kommunikoivat henkilöt, joilla on suomenkielisen taustan lisäksi myös viittomakielinen tausta, käyttävät tilaa kommunikoinnissaan? Sekä kuinka viitotulla puheella kommunikoivat henkilöt, joilla on suomenkielinen tausta käyttävät tilaa kommunikoinnissaan?

Työn kautta huomattiin, että viitotulla puheella kommunikoivat henkilöt, joilla on suomenkielisen taustan lisäksi myös viittomakielinen tausta käyttävät roolinvaihtoa, anaforista tilankäyttöä, osoituksia ja monisuuntaisia verbaaleja. Viitotulla puheella kommunikoivat henkilöt, joilla on suomenkielinen tausta käyttävät tilankäytön elementeistä osoituksia ja anaforista tilankäyttöä.

Viitottua puhetta käyttävistä henkilöistä kolme neljästä koki, että viitottu puhe, jossa on tilankäyttöä, on helpommin ymmärrettävää, kuin viitottu puhe jossa ei ole tilankäyttöä. Heistä kaksi oli suomenkielentaustan lisäksi viittomakielentaustaisia ja yksi oli suomenkielentaustainen. Työn kautta myös huomattiin, että viitotulla puheella kommunikoivat henkilöt voivat toivoa tilaa käytettävän heille viitottaessa eri tavoin, kuin he itse käyttävät tilaa viittoessaan.

The aim of this thesis was to find out how people, who use signed speech as their communication method, use signing space in their communication. Use of space was defined to pointings, the role changing, multidirectional verbs and to the anaphoric use of space. The anaphoric use of space was in this thesis that the signer builds some kind of stage to the signing space, by locating there things which are not present.

The main research method was observation and interview was used to support the main method. There were four people who use signed speech as their communication method who were observed and interviewed. Both observation and interview were in October 2012. Those people were chosen to be the informants because of their background: two informants were with the Finnish and also sign language background and two were with the Finnish background.

The subscriber of this thesis was Kuuloliitto ry and the supervisor from the field was Sirpa Laurén. This thesis was made because they needed more researched information about signed speech, which they can use for updating the signed speech guidelines. The signed speech guidelines were made in Kuuloliittos project “Viitotun puheen etäopetusprojekti Vipe” in 2001-2004. Signed speech is one of the communication methods that sign language interpreter must be able to use. So updating the guidelines benefits the Sign Language Interpretation field. Guidelines are used in studying signed speech in Sign Language Interpreter education programme.

This thesis researched how the people with the Finnish and sign language background who communicate with signed speech use space when communicating? And how the people with the Finnish background who communicate with signed speech use space when communicating?

The result was that people with the Finnish and sign language background who communicate with signed speech use the role changing, the anaphoric use of space, pointings and multidirectional verbs. People with Finnish background who communicate with signed speech use pointings and the anaphoric use of space.

The result also was that three of four people who use signed speech think that signed speech with the use of space was easier to understand than signed speech without the use of space. Those three people were two with the sign language and Finnish background and one whit the Finnish background. The Result also was that people who communicate whit signed speech may hope that when someone is signing for them they will use signing space differently than they use themselves.
