Pesänrakentaminen

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön taiteellisessa osuudessa rakennettiin Rauman taidemuseon kellariin Synty-niminen installaatio. Kirjallisessa osuudessa kuvattiin ja analysoitiin teoksen koko valmistumisprosessia sekä henkisiä ja psykologisia elementtejä työn ja työskentelyn taustalla.

Kirjallisessa osuudessa kuvattiin syyt teoksen syntyyn, prosessin haasteet sekä teoksen valmistumisen vaikutukset tekijään. Teksti kirjoitettiin ensimmäisessä persoonassa, kahdella tasolla. Vuoroin kuvattiin konkreettista fyysistä työskentelyä, vuoroin taiteilijan mielenliikkeitä tekemisen taustalla. Kirjoitustyylinä käytettiin asiatekstin ja vapaamman runollisen kielen vuorottelua, pyrkien kuitenkin säilyttämään kokonaisuus kirjallisesti eheänä.

Taiteilijan työskentely ja ajattelu kuvattiin hyvinkin intiimisti, prosessi pyrittiin välit-tämään lukijalle mahdollisimman autenttisena. Alussa kuvattiin halu rakentaa kellariin vertauskuvallinen pesä, joka koostuu taiteilijan lapsuudenkodin materiaaleista: hevosenjouhista ja hevosrehun suojaverkosta. Installaation tukirakenteen valmistu-mista sekä sisäseinien punontaa taustoineen ja materiaalihankintoineen kuvattiin askel askeleelta. Lopussa kuvattiin yllättäviä vastoinkäymisiä ja taiteen tekemiselle tyypillisiä epäuskon vaiheita. Työn siirtäminen ja kokoaminen itse näyttelypaikalle sekä yleisön osallisuus tuotiin esille myös omina tärkeinä vaiheinaan prosessissa.

Kirjallisessa osuudessa pyrittiin kuvaamaan taiteilijan pohdinta liittyen hänen suhtee-seensa lapsuudenkotiinsa, sekä hänen pyrkimyksensä luoda terve suhde niin jumalallisiin voimiin kuin lähimmäisiinsäkin.

In the artistic part of the degree work an installation called Birth was built in the cellar of Rauma art museum. In the literary part was described and analyzed the whole process of making the artwork, and the spiritual and psychological elements behind the work.

The reasons of making this piece, challenges in the process and the influences the work had on the artist were described in the literary part of the degree work. The text was written in first-person, on two different levels. The concrete physical work was described in turns with the artist’s thoughts behind her actions. The writing altered between pragmatic text and more poetic style, still aiming to maintain the style intact.

The working and contemplating of the artist were described very intimately; the goal was to provide the reader with an authentic view of the process. The desire to build a metaphorical nest, which would be built of artist’s childhood home materials: horsehair and a certain type of net used to cover horse feed, was described in the beginning. The making of the supporting structure of the installation, and the plaiting of the inner walls, with their background information and gathering of the material were described step by step. In the end sudden hardships and typical artistic disbelief were portrayed. Moving and rebuilding the artwork to its final location, and the involve-ment of the audience were brought out as their own parts of the process.

In the literary part the goal was to describe the artist’s deliberation considering her relationship with her childhood home, and her aim to create a healthy relationship with divine powers and her loved ones.
