Melos ja Ode - laulun tekstien tulkinta

Abstract

Opinnäytetyöni kirjallinen osio käsittelee laulua tekstin lähtökohdista. Aluksi työssä esitellään lyhyesti lauletun musiikin kehitysvaiheita keskiajalta lähtien 1800-luvun romanttisen liedin aikoihin asti. Katsauksessa painotus on tekstin osuudessa ja merkityksessä lauletussa musiikissa. Vielä Mozartin ja Beethovenin aikoihin sävellettiin säkeistölauluja, eikä teksteihin kiinnitetty sellaista huomiota kuin myöhemmin, jolloin teksti ohjasi lauluja aina läpisävellettyyn muotoon.

Lyriikan historiaa, piirteitä ja keinovalikoimia esitellään itsenäisinä ilmiöinä sekä musiikkiin sitomalla. Tärkeinä lähteinä johdattamassa liedin kamarimusiikillisen luonteen ja tekstien merkityksen ymmärtämiseen ovat olleet Seppo Nummen ja Ralf Gothonin ajatukset ja kirjoitukset.

Työssä analysoidaan myös kolmen opinnäytekonsertissa laulamani laulun tekstejä. Analyysissä esitetään erilaisia mahdollisuuksia ja lähestymistapoja tekstien käsittelemiseen ja tulkitsemiseen. Näitä sävellettyjä runoja minulle on avannut filosofian tohtori ja äidinkielenopettaja Raija Hakala.

Työn tavoitteena on korostaa laulajille tekstianalyysien tärkeyttä. Laulun linjakkuudesta ja teknisestä taidokkuudesta huolimatta laulu ei puhuttele kuulijaa jos tulkinta jää ohueksi puutteellisen tekstitulkinnan vuoksi.

This thesis contemplates lied singing and its emphasis on song texts. At the beginning of thesis there is a short explanation of the history of singed music in classical scene. The basis of classical music is in antique synagogue songs of jews. In the Middle Ages songs had a single voice without accompaniment. After the Renaissance vocal polyphony, vocal music turned back to single voiced singing. At the beginning of 17th century monophonic singing was called monody. Viennese classical school composers composed songs in verse form, and they did not pay attention to texts so much. In the Romanticism song texts became dominant. The texts guided songs to a through-composed form, and the piano and singing reached the equal level in music. Lied became chamber music.

In the second section poetry is dealt. What is lyrics and how do the poets handle different approaches and ways to write and understand texts. What kind of images and rhythm are used in poetry. Important sources in the thesis are Seppo Nummi’s and Ralf Gothoni’s books, where they guide how to understand that lied is chamber music. The text is a very important matter in lied and the singer must analyze it very carefully.

It is also analyzed three songs performed in a concert. The analysis presents different opportunities and approaches to process and interpret the texts .Ms Raija Hakala, Doctor of Philosophy and Finnish teacher has explained the basis of the poems in question.

The purpose of this thesis is emphasize to singers, how important text analysis is. Although the singer sings with good technique, and fine voice, the song does not appeal, if the interpretation is thin. Often that is because of a deficient text analysis.
