Esiintyjyyttä etsimässä : tanssijan esiintyjyyden kehitysmahdollisuuksia nykytanssin opetuksessa

Abstract

Tämä tutkielma on kirjoitettu osana tanssinopettajan tutkinnon (AMK) opinnäytetyökokonaisuutta. Taiteellinen osa opinnäytetyöstä on koreografia Akilleen Kantapää viidelle tanssijalle. Teos lukeutui toukokuussa 2013 Turun Taideakatemian Köysiteatterissa järjestetyn Köydet irti! -festivaalin ohjelmistoon. Tämä opinnäytetyön kirjallinen osa käsittelee tanssijan esiintyjyyden rakentumista ja siihen vaikuttavia tekijöitä. Tekstissä tarkastellaan nykytanssin tekniikan suhdetta esiintymiseen. Keskiössä on pyrkimys tutkia tanssinopettajan roolia ammattitanssijan esiintyjyyden kehityksessä. Teksti pohjautuu pääosin kirjoittajan omakohtaisiin kokemuksiin ja pohdintoihin. Lähdemateriaalina käytetään otteita suomalaisten koreografien kirjoittamista ajatuksista sekä tanssintutkijoiden kirjallisuudesta. Aluksi kirjoittaja pyrkii määrittelemään joitakin nykytanssille tyypillisiä piirteitä, jotka vaikuttavat tanssiteosten liikemateriaalin harjoitteluprosesseihin. Teksti etenee koreografien näkökulmien kautta tarkastelemaan tanssijan esiintyjyyden rakentumista osaksi kokemusmaailmaa. Tanssinopettajan toimintatapojen vaikutusta tanssijuuden kehitykseen tarkastellaan tutkielman viimeisissä osissa. Lopuksi kirjoittaja pohtii kuinka nykytanssitunteja voitaisiin rakentaa tukemaan esiintyjyyttä.

This study is written as partial fulfillment of the Dance Teacher Degree / Bachelor of Dance, at the Turku University of Applied Sciences. The artistic choreographic part of the degree is a per-formance work for five dancers ”Akilleen kantapää”. The written part of the thesis explores the factors that are affecting a dancer’s performing skills. The text examines the connection between the contemporary dance technique and the dancer’s stage presence. The focus is to explore dance teacher's role in the development of the professional dancer’s performing skills. The text is mainly based upon the writer's personal experiences and reflections. In addition, source material has been found in Finnish choreographers and dance researchers’ literature. In the first section the writer defines some typical elements of contemporary dance that impacts the technical training of the dancer for performing the material in a choreography. The text proceeds through the choreographers’ perspectives to examine the dancer’s performance as a part of an experience. The effects of the dance teacher's practices on the development of dancers' artistic skills are discussed in the latter sections. To conclude, the writer discusses the possibilities to construct contemporary dance classes that may improve the dancers' performing skills.
