”Missä ollaan ja minne mennään?” Arviointien avulla perhekotien laatutyön kehittämiseen

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena ja kehittämistehtävinä oli kuvata kahden perhekodin, Kuutinpesän ja Kuutin, toiminta-ajatusta ja tuottaa tietoa perhekotien laatutyön kehittämiseen. Tavoitteena oli tehdä näkyväksi perhekotien toiminnan sisältöä sekä työssä olevien kehittämistarpeiden tunnistaminen. Tämä tutkimuksellinen kehittämistyö on kvalitatiivinen, ja aineistonkeruumenetelmänä käytettiin teemoiteltua vertaisarviointikeskustelua ja strukturoitua itsearviointilomaketta. Aineisto analysoitiin sisällönanalyysilla. Kohderyhmänä olivat molempien perhekotien vanhemmat (4henkilöä).

Vertaisarviointikeskustelun kautta saatiin näkyväksi perhekodeissa toteutuva turvallinen arkielämä, kotien yksilölliset toimitavat ja perhekotivanhempien pysyvyys lasten elämässä. Tämän lisäksi yhteistyö lasten lähipiirin ja viranomaisten kanssa sekä ymmärrys sijaishuoltotyön taustalla olevan problematiikan vaikutuksista koettiin hyvinä ja samalla ammatillisuutta vahvistavina. Itsearvioinnin esiin nostamia keskeisiä työn kehittämiskohteita olivat perhekotityön laatuprofiilin ja Internet-sivujen laatiminen, itsearvioinnin sisällyttäminen työskentelyyn sekä säännöllisyyden ja sovittujen asioiden kirjaaminen etukäteen. Perhekotien työskentelyssä oli havaittavissa eroja, jotka eivät kuitenkaan olleet parannusta vaativia kehittämisen kohteita.

Tämän kehittämistehtävän jatkokäyttö kohdentuu suoraan perhekotien Kuutinpesän ja Kuutin hyödynnettäväksi, sillä opinnäytetyötä käytetään työvälineenä tulevaisuudessa tehtävälle perhekotien laatuprofiilille. Sitä voidaan hyödyntää myös erillisten palveluesitteiden laadinnassa.

The purpose and the developing aim of this study were to examine and to describe the operating ideas of two foster homes, “Kuutinpesä” and “Kuutti”, and to provide information for developing quality work in foster homes. The aim was to make visible and to introduce the way the foster homes operate and to recognize the things that need to be improved. The study was qualitative and the data was collected from peer review interviews and from structured selfevaluation forms. The analysis of the material was executed by using content analysis. The target group were the parents in both foster homes (4 people).

The results of the peer review interviews showed that the safe everyday life and the individual ways of operating, and the stability of the parents in the foster homes are very important in the lives of the children. In addition to this, the results also show that the co-operation between the children’s inner circle and the authorities as well as the understanding of the problems inherent in the work in foster homes support and reinforce the occupational know-how of the foster parents. The results of the self-evaluation form brought out a couple of issues that need to be addressed and improved. These are the composition of the quality profiles and the creation of internet pages about the work that is done in foster homes, regular self-evaluation as part of everyday work, adhering to routines,and documentation of agreed upon plans. There were differences seen in the ways of working in the surveyed foster homes. However, these different ways of working do not need to be improved or changed.

The results of this thesis can be applied in the daily use of both foster homes,“Kuutinpesä” and “Kuutti”. In the future the results of this thesis might also be used as a tool in the quality profiling of the foster homes. The report can also be used in the drafting of service brochures.
