OPAS HAASTAVASTI KÄYTTÄYTYVÄN KEHITYSVAMMAISEN HOITOTYÖHÖN

Abstract

Opinnäytetyömme tavoitteena on ollut koota monipuolinen ja mielenkiintoinen opas haastavasti käyttäy-tyvän kehitysvammaisen hoitotyön käytännön tilanteisiin. Selvitämme, kuinka haastavaa käyttäytymistä voi ennakoida ja kuinka tilanteissa tulisi toimia. Valitsimme aiheen, koska olemme kiinnostuneet kehi-tysvammatyöstä ja koemme, ettei terveysalan koulutuksessa käsitellä kehitysvammaisuutta riittävästi. Haluamme itse kehittyä kehitysvammaisten hoitajina sekä jakaa tietämystämme muille terveysalan työn-tekijöille ja opiskelijoille. Oppaan tilaajana toimii Mikkelin ammattikorkeakoulu, ja se on suunniteltu käytettäväksi erityisesti hoitotyön opiskelijoiden opetuksessa.

Olemme koonneet oppaan perehtymällä kehitysvammaisten haastavaan käyttäytymiseen kirjallisuuden kautta. Haasteena opinnäytetyön tekemisessä oli aiemman tiedon vähäisyys. Löytämistämme lähteistä poimimme oleelliset asiat yhteen ja kokosimme ne opinnäytetyöhön sekä oppaaseen. Käyttämämme läh-teet ovat kaikki asiantuntijoiden kirjoittamia ja olemme pyrkineet käyttämään mahdollisimman tuoreita lähteitä. Keskeisiksi asioiksi nousivat mielenterveyshäiriöiden ja käyttäytymisfenotyyppien vaikutus haastavaan käyttäytymiseen sekä haastavan käyttäytymisen ennaltaehkäisy, kohtaaminen ja siihen vas-taaminen hoitotyön keinoin.

Kehitysvammaisia, joilla on haastavaa käyttäytymistä voi tulla hoidettavaksi, työskentelipä missä tahansa hoitoalan yksikössä. Tämän vuoksi on tärkeää, että jokaisella hoitoalalla työskentelevällä olisi käsitys kehitysvammaisten hoitotyöstä. Työstä on hyötyä niin terveysalan opiskelijoille kuin ammattilaisillekin. Oppaan tarkoitus on kertoa tiivistettynä tietoa haastavasti käyttäytyvän kehitysvammaisen hoitotyöstä ja siitä, kuinka tulisi toimia käytännön tilanteissa.

The aim of our thesis is to compile a varied and interesting guide to practical nursing situations of mentally disabled with challenging behaviour. We found out how challenging behaviour can be predicted and how you should act in that kind of situations. We chose this subject because we are interested in nursing of mentally disabled. We also feel that the bachelor´s degree of nursing does not deal enough with mental disabilities. We want to develop ourselves as nurses of mentally disabled and we want to share our knowledge for nursing students and registered nurses. The guide was commissioned by the Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences and is designed specifically to be used in teaching nursing students.

We have put together a guide by studying challenging behaviour of mentally disabled through various literature and articles. The challenge for the final thesis was the low amount of prior knowledge. From the sources we picked up the essential things, and put them together in the thesis and the guide. Our sources are all written by experts, and we have tried to use the most recent sources. As an essential factor came up the influence of mental disorders and behavioural phenotypes on challenging behaviour. Also prevention of challenging behaviour, confronting challenging behaviour and meeting it using the means of nursing were seen as important factors.

Mentally disabled who have challenging behaviour may appear as a patient in any health care unit. So, it is important that everyone who works in health care knows how to work with mentally disabled. This thesis is beneficial for health care students and professionals. The purpose of the guide is to present summarized information about nursing of mentally disabled with challenging behaviour and how should be acted in practical situations.
