Kennelliiton kaverikoira kehitysprojekti

Abstract

Opinnäytetyöni tarkoituksena oli tutkia asiakkaiden kokemuksia Kennelliiton kaverikoiratoiminnasta sekä selvittää osana Kennelliiton projektia kaverikoiratoiminnan organisoinnin kehittämismahdollisuuksia. Kennelliiton kaverikoiraprojekti on saanut alkunsa kehitystarpeista kaverikoirien hyväksi, koska organisoidummalla toiminnalla kaverikoirat olisivat paremmin asiakkaiden tietoisuudessa ja käytettävissä. Kaverikoirakkojen määrä on tasaisesti nouseva, ja se vaatii Kennellitolta yhä enemmän resursseja hoitaa tätä arvokasta työtä tekevää vapaaehtoisryhmää.

Kaverikoiratoiminnan kehittäminen toteutettiin toiminnallisena projektina ajalla 21.5.2012- 30.9.2013. Projektissa kokoontui ryhmä asiantuntijoita jotka kyselyiden, oman ideoinnin sekä seminaarien avulla kartoittivat kehitysideoita kaverikoiraohjaajille, yhdyshenkilöille ja Kennelliitolle.

Projektissa tehtiin neljä erilaista kyselyä ja tässä opinnäytetyössä avataan vierailu-kohteisiin tehtyä kyselyä. Tutkimus toteutettiin kyselytutkimuksena, joka analysoitiin käyttäen sekä kvantitatiivista että kvalitatiivista aineiston analysointitapaa. Muut kyselyt tehtiin ohjaajille, yhdyshenkilöille ja kennelpiireille. Heiltä kysyttiin myös kehittämisideoita tulevaisuutta varten.

Kehittämisideat, jotka nostettiin vierailukohteista tärkeiksi olivat: vierailujen lisääminen, mahdollisimman moninaiset toiminnat koiravierailulla sekä vierailuiden jatkuminen pidemmän aikaa. Tutkimuksen tärkeänä tuloksena todettiin, että kaverikoiratoiminta on arvokasta ja pidettyä vapaaehtoistyötä. Tämä on suora viesti Kennelliitolle siitä, että toimintaa olisi saatava organisoitua toimivammaksi, ja että se voisi laajentua, jolloin myös vapaaehtoiset pysyisivät toiminnassa mukana. Asiakkaiden positiivinen palaute kertoi että vierailuja tarvitaan ja ne koetaan tärkeiksi.

The purpose of my thesis was to research how the companion dogs of the Finnish Kennel Club influence customers and to cooperate in the Companion Dog Development Project. The Companion Dog Project of the Finnish Kennel Club was based on the needs to improve the companion dog activities. If the activities were more organized, the companion dogs would be better available for the customers and the customers would be better informed about the activity. The number of the companion dogs has increased constantly and therefore the Kennel Club needs more resources for this voluntary group and their valuable work. The project was functional and lasted 1,5 years. During the project a group of experts was convened to map out improvement ideas for the companion dog volunteers, the contact persons and the Kennel Club. The ideas were developed based on inquiries, brainstorming and seminars. Four inquiries were made. This thesis reports the results from the inquiry made in the locations where companion dogs were visiting. The research method used was qualitative and in some questions the quantitative method was used as well. The other inquiries were made for the companion dog volunteers, the contact persons and the kennel districts. They were also asked the improvement ideas for the future. The most important improvement ideas from the locations where the companion dogs were visiting were the possibility to more frequent visits, different kind of activities with the dogs during the visits and continuous visits. An important result of the research was that the companion dog activity is valuable and liked voluntary work. This is a straight message to the Kennel Club to organize the activity better so that it could expand and the volunteers would continue the activity. The positive feedback from the customers told that the visits are considered necessary and important.
