"KUKAAN EI VOI TIETÄÄ MITEN HULLU VÄLILLÄ OLEN" : Tutkimus äitien väkivaltaisuudesta ja siihen johtaneista syistä

Abstract

Äitien väkivaltaisuus on kuohuttava, mutta vähän puhuttu ja tutkittu aihe. Sen olemassaoloa ei haluta myöntää, eikä nähdä. Totuus on kuitenkin se, että meillä Suomessakin äidit käyttävät väkivaltaa päivittäin omiin lapsiinsa.

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on tuoda ilmi äitien väkivaltaisuutta lapsia kohtaan. Tutkimuksen aineisto on kerätty Internetin keskustelupalstoilta ja tulokset on saatu aineistolähtöisen analyysin avulla. Opinnäytetyön avulla pyrin myös löytämään syitä äitien väkivaltaisuuteen. Kyseessä on kvalitatiivinen eli laadullinen tutkimus, minkä vuoksi aineisto on melko pieni.

Määrällisesti pienen aineiston pohjalta saadut tutkimustulokset olivat kuitenkin samassa linjassa aiempien tutkimustulosten kanssa. Syiksi äitien väkivaltaisuuteen osoittautuivat lapsuuden traumaattiset kokemukset, ihmissuhteiden ongelmat, väsymys ja masennus. Äidit tuntevat usein myös olevansa kovin yksin lasten kanssa ja yksinäisyys yhdistettynä moniin muihin ongelmiin ajaa äidin pois kaidalta tieltä. Joskus väkivaltaisten äitien taustalta löytyy myös alkoholiongelmia ja erilaisia mielenterveyden häiriöitä, joilla on myös osaltaan vaikutusta äidin käyttäytymiseen.

Opinnäytetyö tuo selkeästi esille vakavan ongelman, jolla on kauaskantoiset seuraukset, ellei sille tehdä mitään. Tutkimusta tehdessä kävi ilmi, että äidit eivät uskalla hakea ongelmiinsa apua. Tämä on tutkimustuloksistani suurin ja huolestuttavin, sillä katkaisemattomalla väkivallan kierteellä on erittäin negatiiviset vaikutukset.

This bachelor´s thesis is a qualitative study about mothers’ violence. There are lots of violent mothers in Finland. This is, however, a subject which has not been studied extensively. It is important to study also these kinds of difficult subjects, because that way we can all learn to understand them.

In this bachelor´s thesis mothers have a major role. The material of this survey was collected from different kinds of forums on the Internet. In the material mothers tell what they have done to their children and they also think about why. What are the reasons that change mothers into monsters was the question that I wanted to answer in this survey.

The study showed that the reasons are mainly childhood´s traumatic experiences, difficult relationships, loneliness, exhaustion and mental problems. In some cases intoxicants were also involved and they always affect people’s behaviour. The writers usually had more than one of these problems in their life. These are the reasons that other researchers also have found. Of course every case is different but these are the most common reasons for mothers’ violent behaviour.

This survey showed how hard it is to get help for violent problems. Every one of the material writers know how wrong they do when they mistreat their children. They carry enormous guilt and shame on their shoulders. Every one of them wants to get help but they just do not have the courage to do that because they are afraid of the consequences. This is a major problem. By making this problem visible, we can lower the threshold of getting help in the future.
