Laboratoriohoitajan työ kliinisen kemian laboratorion analyysityöpisteissä

Abstract

Laboratorioala on muuttunut paljon laiteautomatisaation ja lääketieteen kehittymisen myötä ja samalla myös laboratoriohoitajan työnkuva. Haasteena työkentällä on nykyisin monenlaisen osaamisen tarve. Muutoskykyisten ammattilaisten tuottaminen tulisi ottaa huomioon laboratoriohoitajien koulutuksessa. Lisäksi on huomioitava, että laboratoriohenkilökunnasta jää Suomessa eläkkeelle vuoteen 2020 mennessä arviolta noin 40 - 50 %. Tässä opinnäytetyössä kartoitettiin, millainen on kliinisen kemian laboratorion analyysityöpisteissä laboratoriohoitajien työnkuva tänä päivänä ja miten laboratoriohoitajat kehittäisivät työtään. Työn tavoitteena oli luoda työelämän tarpeita kuvaava näkemys laboratoriohoitajien osaamisesta ja työtehtävien vaativuudesta.

Opinnäytetutkimus toteutettiin laadullisena tapaustutkimuksena toukokuussa 2013 Vaasan keskussairaalan kliinisen kemian laboratorion neljässä analyysityöpisteessä. Laadullinen tutkimusote valittiin kokonaisymmärryksen saavuttamiseksi. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin laboratoriohoitajien (N=6) teemahaastatteluilla sekä ryhmissä että yksittäin. Teemahaastatteluissa edettiin nykyisen toiminnan kuvauksesta tuleviin osaamishaasteisiin ja kehittämistarpeisiin. Aineiston analyysissä käytettiin induktiivista sisällönanalyysiä.

Laboratoriohoitajan työssä osaamistarpeet todetaan moninaisiksi; sekä laaja-alaisen yleisosaamisen että syvän osaamisen taitajia tarvitaan. Päivystyslaboratoriossa toimivilta laboratoriohoitajilta vaaditaan laaja-alaista osaamista hyvinkin vaativissa työtilanteissa. Vuorotyö koetaan työnkiertoa ja osaamista heikentävänä tekijänä. Yksinkertaisesti joihinkin työpisteisiin päästään työskentelemään laboratoriohoitajien mielestä liian harvoin. Vaasan sairaanhoitopiirissä työskenteleviltä edellytetään myös molempien kotimaisten kielten hyvää hallintaa.

Tutkimustulokset antoivat tapausorganisaatiolle kattavan käsityksen analyysityöpisteissä työskentelevien laboratoriohoitajien osaamisesta ja kehittämisen tarpeista tulevaisuudessa. Tutkimusta voidaan käyttää mallina kartoitettaessa laboratoriohoitajien työnkuvauksia ja osaamisen edellytyksiä laajemminkin kliinisen laboratorion muissa työpisteissä ja näytteenotossa.

The laboratory branch has gone through a lot of changes due to the equipment automation and the development of medicine. Therefore, also the job description of a biomedical laboratory scientist has changed. The challenge in the branch is, nowadays, the need for versatile knowhow. The education system of biomedical laboratory scientist should take into consideration that it produces adjustable professionals. In addition, it should be taken into consideration that approximately 40 - 50 per cent of Finnish laboratory staff will retire by the year 2020. This thesis surveyed what the job description of a biomedical laboratory scientist is like in analysis working posts of a clinical chemistry laboratory nowadays and how the biomedical laboratory scientists would improve their work. The aim of this thesis was to create a vision of the knowhow and the requirements of the work of the biomedical laboratory scientists that reflects the needs of working life.

The thesis was conducted as a qualitative case study in May 2013 in four analysis working posts of the clinical chemistry laboratories of Vaasa Central Hospital. The qualitative study excerpt was chosen to achieve a complete understanding. The material was collected by interviewing the biomedical laboratory scientists (N=6) both in groups and as individuals. The interviews proceeded from describing the current functions to future challenges in knowhow and the development requirements. Inductive content analysis was used in analyzing the material.

The requirements for knowhow in the work of a biochemical laboratory scientist were considered to be varied. People who master both wide scale general knowhow and specified knowhow are needed. The biomedical laboratory scientists that work in the laboratory for the emergency room need to have wide scale knowhow in very craving working situations. Shift work was considered to be a weakening factor for the work rotation and knowhow. The biomedical scientists think that they simply get to work in specific posts too seldom. The biomedical scientists that work in the hospital district of Vaasa also have to master both of the domestic languages.

The results of the research gave the case organization an extensive understanding for the future of the knowhow and development requirements of the biomedical laboratory scientists that work in the analysis working posts. The study can be used as a model when the job descriptions and knowhow requirements of the biomedical laboratory scientists are surveyed more extensively in other working posts of the clinical laboratory and sampling.
