Ympäristöjärjestelmän rakentaminen : Case: Inno Interior Oy

Abstract

Tavoitteena oli rakentaa huonekalualalla toimivalle Inno Interior Oy:lle, joka valmistuttaa tuotteet alihankkijoilla, sertifiointikelpoinen ympäristönhallintajärjestelmä. Yrityksellä ei ollut ympäristösertifikaattia. Asiakkaat vaativat yritykseltä ympäristöasioiden hoitamisen tason osoittamista. Ympäristöhallintajärjestelmän rakentaminen ja sertifiointi oli sopivin ratkaisu ongelmaan.

Ympäristöjärjestelmän rakentamisen lähtökohtana olivat toiminnan aiheuttamat ympäristö-vaikutukset ja huonekalujen aiheuttama ympäristökuormitus. Tutkimuksessa keskityttiin ympäristötoiminnan kehittämiseen ympäristöhallintajärjestelmän ISO 14001:2004 -standardin mukaisesti.

Tutkimus toteutettiin toimintatutkimuksena käyttäen kvalitatiivisia ja kvantitatiivisia me-netelmiä. Tutkimuksen alussa todettiin, että yritykseltä puuttui ympäristöstrategia. Tutki-mus aloitettiin kartoittamalla yrityksen ympäristöstrategista suuntaa toimiala-, asiakas-, kilpailija- ja toimittaja-analyyseillä sekä asiakastyytyväisyystutkimuksella. Asiakastyytyväisyystutkimus vahvisti sertifikaatin tarvetta. Alustavassa ympäristökatsel-muksessa määriteltiin yrityksen ympäristöasioiden hoitamisen taso. Prosessitarkastelulla tunnistettiin ympäristökuormitukseen vaikuttavat seikat. Näiden perusteella määriteltiin ympäristöstrategia, -päämäärät, -tavoitteet ja -ohjelma. Ympäristökäsikirjaan kuvattiin ym-päristöjärjestelmän ydinosat ja niiden vuorovaikutus.

Tutkimuksen tuloksena laadittiin yritykselle strategialähtöinen ympäristöstrategia, jonka pohjalta sovelletaan jatkuvan parantamisen periaatetta yrityksen toiminnoissa ja tuotteissa. Lisäksi tehtiin vuodelle 2010 ympäristöohjelma, jonka johto myöhemmin vahvistaa.

Ympäristökäsikirja laadittiin auttamaan ymmärtämän ympäristöjärjestelmää kokonaisuute-na. Ympäristöjärjestelmä on valmis sertifioitavaksi. Ympäristöjärjestelmän rakentamisen aikana tehtiin parannuksia logistiikkaan ja energian säästöön.

The purpose of this study was to build an environmental management system, which could be certified later by a certification foundation, for Inno Interior Ltd. Inno Interior Ltd. is thirty three years old family company in the furniture branch. Products are manufactured by the subcontractors. Clients have requested the company to prove the commitment to the environment concern. The company has not been able to show a liable commitment to the environment concern. The company has not an environment certificate. The construction of the environmental management system was based on the operations and products, which cause environmental impacts. The environmental load caused by furniture is connected to materials, manufacturing, transport of raw materials and ready products and waste of furniture. The study was carried out as an action research by using both qualitative and quantitative research methods. An environmental strategy must be defined before the system itself can be created. The environmental study was started by reviewing the direction of the environmental strategy in the company and by analysing the target company’s branch, customers, competitors and suppliers. A customer satisfaction survey was carried out also. The take of the survey was carefully considered and mailed to the customers. The response was not great but it strengthened the need of the certificate. The level of environmental concern in the company was determined in a preliminary review. In the process review the impacts, which cause environmental load, were identified. Based on the review and progress study, the environmental strategy, environmental objectives, environmental targets and environmental program were determined. The environmental management system and how it work was described in the manual. In the study the development of the environmental operation was concentrated according the standard ISO 14001:2004. The result of the study was the completion of a strategic based environmental strategy manual. The manual was based on the principal of the continual improvement in the operations and products of the company. The environmental manual was made in order to help the company’s personnel to better understand the whole environmental system within the company. The environmental management system is ready for certification by an external auditor. The main improvements during the study were achieved in handling of waste and transport logistic.
