Peliyrityksen verkkosivujen suunnittelu ja toteutus

Abstract

Edustava näkyminen on tärkeää jokaiselle yritykselle. Internet-sivut ovat tämän päivän yritykselle tärkeä näkyvyyden väline, eikä sen merkitystä voida väheksyä. Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantajana toimi oululainen peliyritys Bellegames Oy, joka tuottaa pelejä Windows Phone- ja Facebook-alustoille. Sivusto tehtiin korvaamaan yrityksen vanhat väliaikaiset sivut.

Työn tavoitteena oli toteuttaa yksinkertainen, tyylikäs ja helposti päivitettävä verkkosivusto toimeksiantajalle. Lisäksi sivuston tuli toimia myös mobiililaitteilla riippumatta laitemallista. Opinnäytetyössä käsiteltiin sivuston visuaalisen ja toiminnallisen suunnittelun ja toteutuksen kannalta tärkeitä aihepiirejä. Sivusto toteutettiin WordPress-julkaisujärjestelmällä ja ulkoasun muokkaus toteutettiin tekemällä lapsiteema Twenty Thirteen -teeman pohjalle. Lapsiteema mahdollistaa sivuston turvallisen päivittämisen ilman äititeeman muokkausta. Raporttiosassa käytiin läpi sivuston lapsiteeman muokkaamista visuaalisen ilmeen aikaansaamiseksi.

Tietoperustana käytettiin WordPressin toimintaperiaatteita käsitteleviä artikkeleita ja yleisen wwwja responsiivisen suunnittelun periaatteita. Lähteiksi valittiin pääosin verkkolähteitä, jotta käytettävä tieto olisi ajantasaista. Verkkosivuston suunnittelussa auttoivat myös erilaiset internetsovellukset, joita käytettiin tukemaan esimerkiksi sivuston värityksen ja hakukoneoptimoinnin toteuttamista.

Opinnäytetyön valmistumisen jälkeen toimeksiantajalle toimitettiin lapsiteema kokonaisuudessaan sekä pienimuotoinen ohje sivuston päivitykseen liittyen. Työn tuloksena saatiin aikaan tyylikäs sivusto, joka vastasi toimeksiantajan antamia toiveita liittyen ulkoasuun ja toiminnallisuuteen. Sivustoa ei siirretty yrityksen palvelimelle opinnäytetyön kirjoittamisen aikana johtuen yrityksen sen hetkisestä tilanteesta. Toimeksiantaja julkaisee sivuston myöhemmin omatoimisesti. Lisäksi toimeksiantaja tuottaa sisällön sivuille itse.

A web site is an important tool for a company as it promotes visibility and informs customers of its products. The client of this thesis is a small Oulu-based game company called Bellegames Ltd. which produces games for platforms such as Windows Phone and Facebook. The website was made to replace the company’s old temporary website.

The goal of this thesis was to produce a simple, stylish and easy to update website for the client. In addition the website needed to work on mobile platforms regardless of the make or model of the device. This thesis covers some important parts of visual design, functionality and the making of the website. The website was built using WordPress and the visual look was achieved by making a child theme based on the theme “Twenty Thirteen”. Child themes allow a safe way to update and modify a theme without making modifications to the parent theme.

The theoretical background for this thesis was formed by articles on WordPress functionality, the basic operation of WordPress, general principles of web design and responsive web design. The sources were mainly web-based so that the information would be up-to-date. Some web applications were used to support tasks such as designing the color scheme and search engine optimization in the practical execution.

As a result of this thesis the client will be provided with the child theme and a small WordPress manual. The output of the thesis was a website that satisfied the client’s needs regarding visual look, functionality and ease of updating. The webs ite will not be transferred to the client’s server as was originally planned due to the current state of the company. In addition the client company will produce the content for the website themselves. The client will publish the website on a later date.
