Vapaaehtoistoiminta voimavarana saattohoidossa : Hirvensalmen palvelukeskuksen pilotti

Abstract

Ikäosaavat palvelualueet Etelä–Savossa -hanke käynnistyi Mikkelissä vuonna 2012. Hankkeen tavoitteena oli kehittää vapaaehtoistoiminnan organisointimallit tukemaan ikäihmisten elämänlaatua SeutuSoten kunnissa. Hankkeen osatoteuttajia olivat Mikkelin kaupunki ja SeutuSoten kunnat; Kangasniemi, Hirvensalmi, Mäntyharju, Pertunmaa, Ristiina ja Suomenniemi. Kuntakohtaisten pilottien tarkoituksena oli edistää ja kehittää vapaaehtoistoimintaa Etelä-Savon alueella lisäämällä ikäihmisten hyvinvointia ja ennaltaehkäistä toimintakyvyn heikkenemistä.

Vapaaehtoistoiminta on omasta halusta lähtevää, palkatonta toimintaa, jota tehdään omia arvoja vastaavan yhteisön hyväksi. Se on merkki halusta osallistua ja vaikuttaa ja sen tulisi olla kaikkien kansalaisoikeus. Hirvensalmen pilotin ja samalla tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli kehittää saattohoitoa Hirvensalmen palvelukeskuksessa ja saada vapaaehtoistyö näkyväksi kunnassa. Hanketta toteutettiin kouluttamalla vapaaehtoisia ja henkilökuntaa. Tutkimuksellisena osana tehtiin kysely vapaaehtoisille koulutuksen merkityksestä ja henkilökunnalle lähetettiin wepropol-kysely vapaaehtoistoiminnasta.

Hankkeen aikana saatiin toimintaan mukaan rekrytoitua kolmetoista vapaaehtoista. Heidät koulutettiin, ja koulutuksen jälkeen heillä oli mahdollisuus osallistua saattohoitoon rinnallakulkijana sekä toimia myös muissa vapaaehtoistoiminnan tehtävissä. Kyselyn tuloksina ilmeni, että vapaaehtoiset tarvitsivat koulutusta ja hyötyivät siitä. Henkilökunta piti tärkeänä vapaaehtoisten antamaa palvelua, mutta tiedottamisessa, ohjauksessa ja neuvonnassa nähtiin vielä puutteita. Henkilökunnan mielestä vapaaehtoistoiminnan kehittämisestä olisi pitänyt antaa enemmän tietoa työyhteisössä. He olisivat toivoneet säännöllistä informointia hankkeesta ja sen etenemisestä

Kuntien taloudellisen tilanteen vuoksi vapaaehtoistyön merkitys tulee korostumaan tulevaisuudessa ja kehittämistyöhön tulisi lisätä resursseja huomattavasti. Jatkotutkimuksena voisi olla tutkimus omaisten näkemyksestä vapaaehtoistoiminnasta ja sen merkityksestä. Tämä antaisi arvokasta tietoa kehittäjille.

The seniorexperts service areas in the Southern Savo-project started 2012 in Mikkeli.. The objective of the project was to develop organizational models to the voluntary activities for the support of senior citizens in the Southern Savo municipalities. The project implementers were the city of mikkeli and the munici- palities of Kangasniemi, Hirvensalmi, Mäntyharju, Pertunmaa, Ristiina and Suomenniemi. The purpose of pilot projects was to encourage and delop voluntary action in the Southern Savo region by increasing the wellbeing of senor citizens and to prevent the decreasing of their ability to act. Voluntary actition work and it is done for the community, which has same kind of values as the voluntary himself has. It is sing of a desire to participate and influence. It should be a civil right for everybody. The purpose of the pilot in Hirvensalmi and also the purpose of my thesis was to develop the hospice care in the service center in Hirvensalmi and to make the voluntary work visible in the municipality. The project was carried out by training voluteers and professional staff, which also gave the organizational model. As a part of research was also made an inquiry to the voluteerrs; how they perceived the importance of the training and proffesinal staf was sent a webropol-questionnaire on voluntary activities.

Thirteen volunteers were reqruited during the project. They all were trained and after the training they had a possibility to participate to the hospice care as alongside strollers and also to work in other kind of voluntary. As a result of the questionnaire revealed, that volunteers needed training and that they also got benefit of the training. Professional staff attached great importance to the service volunteers gave, but they saw defects in the information, guidance and advice. They also felt that more information should have given within the work community. The financial situation of the municipalities increases the importance of the voluntary work in the future. That means also more resources should be given to the volunteering development. Further research could examine the close family members views from the significance of voluntary work and that could give valuable information to the developers of voluntary work.
