Tiivistelmä
Due to the pandemic, the whole globe was forced to become a big proof of concept for already anticipated future work models. In the case company, various digital collaboration tools have already been practiced, even though all the employees, both local and Nordic, were working primarily from the office.
The thesis aimed to find how collaboration practices changed from mostly office to full remote and then to a hybrid working model for the case company. Another goal was to find what worked well and what did not at team, cross-functional and social levels, and form advices for the leaders. This is a commissioned thesis, and the work was done as an assignment. The case company is a leading property and casualty insurer in the Nordic region and will stay anonymous.
The thesis starts with a literature review to collect and analyze already known knowledge and the case company’s existing guidelines on the working model, collaboration principles, and leadership in general. This helped to formulate research questions. Then, interviews with leaders in various leadership positions and surveys among employees were done. These methods helped to reflect general knowledge on the case company’s guidelines, reveal the challenges leaders faced, benefits and opportunities they saw, as well as experiences that employees had during the transition to hybrid working model.
The research findings are presented as advices and suggestions. The aim of these advices is to help leaders to determine smooth collaboration principles in the hybrid working model. The thesis has some limitations such as the type of the work and business function. These limitations are part of the suggestions for future research.
