Käsikirjoittajan sukellus tuntemattomaan : kirjoittajan tutkimustyö tarinansa aiheesta ja maailmasta

Abstract

Opinnäytetyö käsittelee käsikirjoittajan tutkimustyötä tarinansa aiheesta sekä sen maailmasta, esitellen erilaisia tutkimustapoja, niiden vaikutusta ja monipuolisuutta. Työssä pohditaan myös kirjoittajan moraalista vastuuta teoksestaan sekä sitä, kuinka tekijän oma tausta ja historia vaikuttaa prosessiin. Kuinka käsikirjoittaja luo suhteen aiheeseensa ja millä lailla eletty elämä sekä ympäröivä todellisuus vaikuttavat tähän? Tavoitteena on luoda läpileikkaus siihen, mitä kirjoittajan tutkimustyö on, mitä vaikutusta sillä on ja miksi se on tärkeää. Haluan tuoda esille tutkimuksen monipuolisuuden ja sen, ettei se rajoitu pelkästään faktuaaliseen taustatutkimukseen vaan on paljon enemmän ja henkilökohtaisempaa.

Opinnäytetyö etenee kronologisesti, kirjoittajan havainnosta taustatyöhön ja sen kautta faktan ja fiktion suhteen sekä kirjoittajan moraalisen vastuun avaamiseen. Tutkimusmenetelminäni olen käyttänyt alan ammattilaisten kanssa toteutettuja haastatteluja sekä alan kirjallisuutta. Tarkoituksenani on saada mahdollisimman monilla eri näkemyksillä luotu kokonaiskuva aiheesta, kuitenkaan pyrkimättä löytämään täysin yksiselitteistä vastausta. Päämääräni on se, että työni lukeva henkilö voi poimia sieltä itselleen tärkeät elementit, sekä antaa tilaa myös lukijan omille johtopäätöksille.

Opinnäytetyön johtopäätöksenä kirjoittajan emotionaalinen ymmärrys tarinan maailmasta, yhdessä moraalin kanssa, luovat pohjan, jota sitten varsinaisella faktuaalisella taustatutkimuksella tuetaan. Taustatutkimus on kirjoittajalle tärkeää, mutta sen avulla pyritään enemmänkin tukemaan tai avartamaan kirjoittajan jo olemassa olevaa näkökulmaa. Se, kuinka kirjoittaja lähtee aiheeseensa tutustumaan, on hyvin yksilöllistä, ja siihen vaikuttaa myös teoksen luonne ja tyylilaji. Kirjoittajan on myös hyvä tiedostaa oma positionsa suhteessa tarinaan, jotta hän voi oikeuttaa itselleen siitä kirjoittamisen. Avainasemassa on tarinan maailman ymmärtäminen sekä tunteminen niin emotionaalisella kuin moraalisellakin tasolla.

The thesis deals with the research work of a screenwriter, presenting different research methods, their impact and multi-sidedness. The thesis also considers the moral responsibility of the writer and how the writer's own background and history influences the process. How does the writer establish a relationship with the world of the story and in which ways does the past life and the surrounding reality influence this? The aim is to create a cross-section of what the writer's research is, what impact it has and why it is important. More specifically, the focus was on the diversity of the writer’s research and the fact that it is not limited to factual background research but is much more and personal.

The thesis proceeds chronologically, from the author's observation to the background work and through the relationship between fact and fiction to the author's moral responsibility. Data were collected by means of interviews with professionals in the field and a literature review. The aim was to get a comprehensive picture of the subject, with as many different perspectives as possible, without trying to find a completely unambiguous answer. Moreover, the objective was that the reader of the thesis will be able to pick up the elements that are important to him or her, and also leave room for the reader's own conclusions.

The outcome of the thesis is that the author's emotional understanding of the world of the story, together with the moral, creates a foundation which is then supported by factual background research. Background research is important to the writer, but it is more about supporting or broadening the writer's existing perspective. The way in which an author approaches the subject is very individual and influenced by the nature and genre of the story. It is also good for the writer to be aware of his or her own position in terms of the story, so that the writer can justify writing about it. The key is to understand and know the world of the story on both emotional and moral level.
