Abstract

Tutkielman tavoite oli havainnoida taiteilijoiden tapoja esiintyä omissa teoksis-saan, omakuvien ja laajennettujen omakuvien näkökulmasta. Aihetta lähestyttiin semiotiikan, psykologian, sekä taiteilijaesimerkkien näkökulmasta. Tavoitteena oli selventää taiteilijan omaa roolia hänen teoksessaan : ).

Teoriaosuuden pohjana toimi taiteilijoiden omakuvien ja laajennettujen omaku-vien tutkiminen sekä näyttelyiden että kirjojen ja netin välityksellä. Myös teosten ympärille rakentuneet tekstit, sekä erilaiset omakuvia kuvailleet kirjoitukset toi-mivat lähteinä tutkielmalle. Ajankohtaisuutensa vuoksi selfietä sekä sosiaalises-sa mediassa käytettäviä profiilikuvia verrattiin omakuviin.

Tutkielma selvensi tekijän omaa käsitystä taiteilijoiden rooleista heidän teoksis-saan, mutta herätti myös lisäkysymyksiä. Selkeä rajanvedon tekeminen omaku-vien ja laajennettujen omakuvien välille ei ole aina mahdollista. Tekijän oma rooli teoksessa : ) kuitenkin selkeytyi. Teos tulkittiin laajennetuksi omakuvaksi.

The aim of this thesis was to explore the ways artists appear in their artworks, from the context of self-portraits and extended self-portraits. The subject was examined from the perspective of semiotics and psychology, and with examples of other artists work. The intention was to clarify author’s own role in her gradu-ation work : ).

As a source for this thesis the author examined self-portraits and extended self-portraits from various locations such as art exhibitions, books and web. Texts around the artworks and about the subject were the main source for this thesis. For their actuality and similarity, selfies and profile images used in social media were compared to self-portraits.

Thesis clarified the author’s own understanding of artists roles in their artworks, but also evoked new questions. Clear division between self-portraits and ex-tended self-portraits is not always possible to make. The role of the author in the work : ) was however defined. The work was interpreted as an extended self-portrait.
