Tiivistelmä
The telecommunications industry is one of the fastest growing and highly competitive industries in the world. To stay ahead of the competition, global telecommunications companies are expediting their cloud transformation to reduce costs, while still delivering mission-critical services with maximum scalability, flexibility, security, and reliability. Communication Service Providers (CSPs) manage Operations Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS), which are critical information technology systems that enable a wide range of telecommunications services. For over two decades, Case Company has led digital BSS transformations for CSPs. BSS is the software that enables interactions between CSPs and their customers anything from ordering services to resolving billing issues to upgrading subscriptions.

The case company has initiated a project to replace commercial software with a product developed in-house. The objective of this thesis is two-fold: to show how the case company has continued to develop and operate its own in-house product, and to get rid of commercial software and its licensing costs for both the company and customers. This thesis is carried out in the case company environments.

The purpose of this thesis is to create a proof-of-concept model for the case company proposed solution, based on the author's own observations and experiences. This will provide a high-level overview and comparison of the old and new architecture, usability, and performance test results. Additionally, this work investigates the feasibility of low-code and no-code solutions using open-source technologies such as JavaScript, Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) 2.0 tools, Kafka, and OpenAPI. The goal of the thesis is to evaluate whether the case company product is consistent with commercial product use cases and executions. Finally, it aims to summarize the facts about how the case company produces a marketable and cost-effective product.
