Tavoitteena toimiva konsepti : käsikirja Vantaa-kanavan sisällöntuottajille

Abstract

Tässä opinnäytetyössä selvitetään, kuinka suunnitellaan ja toteutetaan konseptikäsikirja kunnan videopalvelun sisällöntuottajille. Käsikirja toteutettiin Vantaan kaupungille, jonka uuden Vantaa-kanavan toimintatapojen toivottiin vakiintuvan jo tuotannon alkuvaiheissa. Tavoitteena oli luoda toimitukselle ohjeistus, joka toimii apuvälineenä tiiviin ja laadukkaan sisällön tuotannossa sekä tarvittaessa perehdytysmateriaalina uusille työntekijöille.

Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin syksyllä 2013 syklisenä toimintatutkimuksena, jossa vuorottelivat suunnittelu- ja kokeilujaksot. Projekti eteni konseptikäsikirjan suunnittelusta ohjeistuksien testaukseen ja sen jälkeen palautteen pohjalta entistä paremman version kirjoittamiseen. Palautetta kerättiin toimituksen jäseniltä kokeilujakson jälkeen sähköpostitse ja haastattelemalla.

Toimintatutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tuottaa teorioiden sijaan käytännön tietoa ja vaikuttaa toimintatapojen vakiintumiseen. Tutkija oli aktiivinen osa tutkimaansa yhteisöä, mikä on toimintatutkimukselle tyypillinen toimintatapa. Valmiiseen konseptikäsikirjaan on siis käytetty useamman ammattitaitoa ja kokemuksia, mikä onkin osallistavan toimintatutkimuksen keskeinen idea.

Opinnäytetyö on suunnattu pääasiassa konseptisuunnittelusta kiinnostuneille ja vastaavanlaisia ohjeistuksia laativille. Kirjallisessa osiossa pohditaan viestinnän ja konseptisuunnittelun teorioiden sekä tutkimuksessa esiin tulleiden seikkojen valossa, millaisia asioita toteutuksessa täytyy ottaa huomioon ja millaisia yllättäviäkin haasteita vastaavanlaisissa projekteissa voi tulla eteen.

Johtopäätöksenä voidaan todeta, että harva konsepti syntyy täysin suunnitelmien mukaan ongelmitta. Etenkin tiukka aikataulu, väärinymmärrykset, tekniset ongelmat sekä keskeneräiset suunnitelmat hidastuttavat usein projektin etenemistä ja pakottavat poikkeamaan suunnitellulta reitiltä. Projektin aikana havaittiin myös, että konsepti on luonteeltaan koko ajan kehittyvä, joten myös konseptikäsikirja on melko vahvasti johonkin tiettyyn versioon ja hetkeen sidottu.

This thesis explains how to plan and produce a concept handbook for the producers of the video services of the council. The handbook was made for the Vantaa city council and its new Vantaa channel. It was hoped that the ways of acting at the new channel would become a part of the production at the early stage. The aim was to create instructions which would help to produce high quality outcome and also act as an introduction for the new workers if needed.

The thesis was produced in the fall of 2013 as a cyclical activity analysis, in which planning and trial sections would take turns. The project started with the planning of the handbook followed by testing the instructions of the handbook and then writing an even better version of the handbook considering the feedback collected by email and interviewing the members of the editing office after the trial.

The method of the activity analysis suited producing a functional thesis because the aim was to create practical information and have an influence on the way of acting instead of creating theories. The researcher played an active part in the examined community which is a part of the method of the activity analysis.

The thesis is mainly targeted for those who are interested in concept planning and for those who are creating similar kind of instructions. In the written part, the theories of com-munication and concept planning are discussed as well as the facts which the study revealed, what kinds of aspects one you must consider in the project in action and what kinds of surprising challenges one might face in similar projects.

As a conclusion, it can be said that few concepts are made entirely following the plan without problems. Especially a busy schedule, misunderstandings, technical problems and un-finished plans often slow down the progress of the project and force to change the planned way of acting. During the project, it was also discovered that the nature of the concept is constantly developing and, therefore, also the concept handbook is quite strongly bound to some particular version and time.
