Tiivistelmä
The aim of the thesis was to give support for strategic decision making when the degree programme of energy technology in the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (UAS) is planned.

In this thesis degree programmes related to energy technology in Finnish universities of applied sciences and universities were investigated. The material collected will help Oulu UAS to focus on the new degree programme so that it will supplement the education supply which is offered in Finland around energy technology in institutions of higher education.

In the thesis the web pages of Finnish institutions of higher education were studied to see what degree programmes around energy technology were offered in the year 2010 as well as to see, what the intakes and the main focus and the contents of each programme were. To help to plan a curriculum for the new degree programme of energy technology possibilities of competence based curriculum were also studied.

There are contents related to energy technology available in many degree programmes and they usually concentrate just on one sector. Energy technology and building services are taught in only few universities of applied sciences. Mechanical and electrical engineering and automation technology are taught in several universities of applied sciences and construction engineering in nearly all of them. Information for competence based curriculum was also surveyed. Subject specific competences for most UAS degree programmes are defined nationally, but competences for energy technology are still missing.

Oulu UAS has long traditions in teaching related to energy, so focus of the new degree programme could be on the integration of the systems of building, local small and medium-sized power production and optimization of their cooperation.
