Kulttuuriluotsit merkityksellisen toiminnan mahdollistajina : kulttuuripalveluiden hyödyntäminen toimintaterapiassa

Abstract

Kulttuurin ja taiteen käyttö terapeuttisena tekijänä erilaisten asiakasryhmien kanssa on ollut paljon esillä viime vuosina. Kulttuuritoiminnalla on huomattu olevan yhtä positiivisia vaikutuksia ihmisen terveydelle kuin liikunnalla.

Opinnäytetyöni on laadullinen tutkimus kulttuuriluotsipalveluiden mahdollisuuksista tarjota merkityksellistä toimintaa asiakkailleen. Käsittelen yhden kulttuuriluotsien palveluja käyttäneen asiakkaan kokemuksia kulttuuriluotsitoiminnasta toimintaterapian ‘inhimillisen toiminnan mallin’ kautta. Opinnäytetyöni tavoitteena on pohtia, miten toimintaterapeutti voisi työssään hyödyntää kulttuuripalveluja, erityisesti museoita, sekä etsiä yhteistyömahdollisuuksia kulttuuriluotsien ja toimintaterapeuttien välille.

Opinnäytetyöni tuloksena oli, että kulttuuriluotsitoiminta voi olla asiakkaille merkityksellistä toimintaa ja siitä löytyy myös kuntoutumista tukevia elementtejä. Museoesineiden käytöstä toimintaterapiassa löytyi lupaavaa tutkimustietoa. Opinnäytetyöni johtopäätöksenä on, että toimintaterapeuttien kannattaisi työssään hyödyntää enemmän kulttuuripalveluja ja museotoimintaa kuntoutuksen osana.

The use of culture and art as therapeutic factors in work with different kinds of client groups has been greatly discussed during the past few years. Cultural activities have been found to have positive effects on people’s health in much the same way as physical activities.

This thesis was a qualitative study of the possibilities that the “culture pilot” (kulttuuriluotsi) services have to offer in terms of meaningful occupation to their clients. Using the “Model of Human Occupation” developed in occupational therapy, the thesis dealt with the experiences of one client who had used the services of the culture pilots. The aim of the thesis was to reflect on how occupational therapists could apply cultural services (with museums as a special case) to their work and to search for possibilities of co-operation between the culture pilots and occupational therapists.

The result of the thesis was that the culture pilot services can provide meaningful occupation for their clients and that they contain features that can support recovery. There is also corroborating research evidence on the use of museum objects in occupational therapy. Thus, the conclusion of the thesis is that occupational therapists should make more extensive use of cultural services and museum activities in their work as part of a rehabilitation process
