Geronomin toimenkuvan kehittäminen Säkylän kunnassa

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli kuvata sitä prosessia, jonka tuloksena Säkylän kuntaan perustettiin geronomin toimi. Geronomin toimen perustaminen perustui kansalaisraadin laatimaan julkilausumaan, jonka johdosta perusturvalautakunta kannatti lisävoimavaran palkkaamista ennaltaehkäisevän työn koordinointiin ja palveluohjaukseen. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää, mitä Säkylän kansalaisraadissa mukana olleet ikääntyneet odottivat geronomilta ja vastasiko geronomin toimenkuva heidän odotuksiaan.

Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin käyttämällä kvalitatiivista tutkimusmenetelmää. Tutkimus perustui viidessä teemahaastattelussa saatuun aineistoon sekä geronomin omiin kokemuksiin ja havaintoihin uudessa tehtävässään. Teemahaastattelut analysoitiin sisällönanalyysillä luokitellen vastaukset geronomin toimenkuvaan ja tunnettuuteen, ennaltaehkäisevän työn ja Ikääntyvien neuvoston toimintaan liittyviin vastauksiin.

Tutkimus osoitti, että Säkylän kunnassa geronomi tunnetaan hyvin ja geronomin toiminta on osoittautunut kansalaisraadissa mukana olleiden odotusten mukaisiksi. Odotukset kohdistuivat erityisesti neuvontaan, ohjaukseen ja ennaltaehkäisevään toimintaan. Geronomin tunnettuuteen liitettiin niin hänen helposti lähestyttävä persoonansa kuin jalkautuminen sivukylillekin. Koettiin erittäin tärkeäksi, että geronomin pitää mennä sinne, missä ikääntyvät ovat. Tutkimuksen mukaan geronomi miellettiin vanhustyön laaja-alaiseksi asiantuntijaksi eikä hoitotyön katsottu kuuluvan geronomin tehtäviin. Vanhustyön asiantuntijuuden koettiin luovan turvallisuuden tunnetta ikääntyneiden keskuudessa. Geronomin koettiin aktivoineen Säkylän ikääntyneitä ja tehostaneen Ikääntyvien neuvoston toimintaa.

Aineiston perusteella haastatellut suosittelisivat kansalaisraadin kaltaista vaikuttamiskanavaa Suomen kuntiin osallistamaan ikääntyneitä omien palveluidensa suunnittelussa ja vanhustyön asiantuntijan eli geronomin palkkaamista kuntiin ikääntyneiden turvallisuudentunteen lisäämiseksi. Kehittämiskohteeksi nousi geronomin neuvontapisteen sijoittaminen esteettömään, keskeisellä paikalla sijaitsevaan paikkaan. Geronomin työnkuvan kehittäminen Säkylässä jatkuu yhteistyössä ikääntyvien kanssa aivan kuin geronomin toimikin saatiin aikaan yhdessä heidän kanssaan.

The purpose of this thesis was to describe a process, where a post of Bachelor of Elderly Care was established in Säkylä. The establishment of this post originated in the declaration of the Citizen Council. On the basis of this declaration the basic security authorities made a decision to employ a person to co-ordinate preventive care and case management. The aim of the thesis was to find out what the Citizen Council expected from the Bachelor of Elderly Care and whether the job description of the Bachelor of Elderly Care corresponded to their expectations.

The approach of the thesis was qualitative. The material was collected by five theme interviews and it also includes the personal experiences and observations of the Bachelor of Elderly Care in her new post. The interviews were analyzed with content analysis by classifying the answers into categories related to the job description and public recognition, preventive work and the functions of the Aged Council.

The results show that people know the Bachelor of Elderly Care well in the municipality of Säkylä and the work of the Bachelor of Elderly Care corresponds to the expectations of the people in the Citizen Council. The Bachelor of Elderly Care was expected to give guidance and counselling and take care of preventive work. The Bachelor of Elderly Care was well known because of her easily accessible personality but also because she had visited elderly people in the outskirts of Säkylä. It was considered very important that the Bachelor of Elderly Care visits the elderly. The Bachelor of Elderly Care was considered a professional with wide knowledge of elderly care and nursing was not considered as part of her work. Having a specialist in elderly care created safety among elderly people. The respondents thought that the Bachelor of Elderly Care had activated the elderly in Säkylä and improved the functions of the Aged Council.

In conclusion, the respondents recommended similar channels as Citizen Council to influence decision making and to make the elderly take part in planning their own services. They also recommended employment of Bachelors of Elderly Care to improve the feeling of safety among the elderly in the municipalities. The answers also emphasized that the Bachelor of Elderly Care’s counselling appointment should be in an accessible and central place. The development of the job description in Säkylä continues in co-operation with the elderly in Säkylä.
