A study on digital transformation and innovation in a Chinese maritime industry

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis was to show digital transformation and innovation had played an important role in the maritime industry. By using the Internet of Things and policy from the Chinese government, CHINA COCSO SHIPPING GROUP has become a leading company in maritime not only in China but also in the world. Also with these efforts, the company has been a technological company instead of a traditional maritime company in the past. Through the research, we hope all maritime companies can use the Internet of Things, digital transformation and innovation to achieve success and contribute to the world in the future. A case study and interview method were used in our thesis. By analyzing the policy of the CHINA COSCO SHIPPING GROUP, comparing Chinese maritime and international maritime, CHINA COSCO SHIPPING GROUP digital transformation and innovation as well as the supply chain to get the ideas of digital transformation and innovation in the maritime industry. Then by interviewing the Chief Technology Officer of CHINA COSCO SHIPPING GROUP, learn the reason why CHINA COSCO SHIPPING GROUP succeeded in the digital transformation. As a result, this thesis can be seen as a valuable contribution to the continued language of digital transformation and innovation within the Chinese maritime industry. By solving research gaps, providing theoretical insights, and offering practical recommendations, the aim is to inform decision-makers, industry practitioners, and researchers similar in their efforts to navigate the digital future of maritime trade.
