Tiivistelmä
The objective of this thesis was to study light pollution as a new pollution in the modern world. Light pollution is a kind of pollution comparable to pollution affecting our lakes, rivers, and seas, to the pollution of our air; to noise pollution and solid pollution.
If there is no light, the physical environment will not reflect any color. Everything will be dark or in shades of grey. For the human being, light, air, water and food are equally necessary. The eye is the most important sense organ of the human being. It easily adapts to the intensity of the light, and the pupil of the eye may carry on the adjustment along with the environment's lights and shades. But in human living conditions, excessive radiation of light creates the phenomenon called light pollution which includes visible light, infrared and ultraviolet ray pollution. What people can mainly sense directly is visible light pollution. A common example of visible light pollution is dazzles, like the front lights of the car suddenly meeting us in the dark night. Another example is a big building glass curtain wall in the city under strong sunlight that is reflects light.
The aim of this thesis study was to explore the light pollution, which causes harm for human beings and life-forms. The thesis also studied about glass-walls which cause serious light pollution. So to raise awareness about the increasing light pollution, we should put forward the conception of the green light environment, to attract more public attention to light pollution, and to create a green light environment.
The first part of the thesis report introduces a background of light pollution. The second part talked about the situation of light pollution in many countries. The third and the last part focus on light pollution and green light environment.
