Tiivistelmä
Artists are inspired by the natural world’s beauty and potential. In Finland’s Pirkanmaa region, eskers, ridges once hidden by glaciers, have become distinct landforms. Sand, a modest element, is found within these eskers. The research explored these natural components and their impact on the Pirkanmaa area from an artistic and ecological perspective.
This study explored the history, geology, and environment of Pirkanmaa’s eskers, uncovering their stories and impact on the landscape. In addition, it also discussed the broader ecology and its present-day significance. The study of sand and its granulation revealed its significant impact on our daily life and potential to cause political conflicts and environmental impacts, from erosion to mass immigration.
This research connects the natural world, human activity, ancient geology, and contemporary art. The installation at Gallery Himmelblau encourages reflection on nature’s complexity and human-environment interaction. It aims to refresh curiosity about Pirkanmaa’s landforms and raise ecological awareness. By exploring eskers and sand, it seeks to engage the audience and artists, promoting active participation in nature conservation. Thus, suggests to look critically towards human intervention on natural landscapes.
