Type 2 diabetes is identified as a major public health concern worldwide, especially impacting older adults. The increasing occurrence of this ailment in the elderly calls for specifically tailored nursing interventions to meet their distinct requirements. The main goal of the research was to investigate and recognize nursing measures that work well in controlling type 2 diabetes in elderly individuals. The study used a systematic method of reviewing literature, gathering data from CINAHL and Medline databases. The criteria for inclusion centered on peer-reviewed articles from 2014 to 2024, pertaining to nursing interventions for elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes. The HAWKER tool was used to evaluate the articles, and key themes were identified through content analysis.
The research found three primary types of nursing actions: Diabetes Management and Education, Nutritional Planning, and Lifestyle Management. The interventions consisted of educating patients about managing diabetes, conducting personalized nutritional evaluations, and encouraging physical activity. The results showed that customized nursing strategies greatly enhance diabetes care and well-being for elderly individuals. The research findings suggest that integrating these proven interventions into nursing care can improve patient results and lessen the impact of diabetes in this community. The findings highlight the crucial need for ongoing research and creation of specialized nursing interventions tailored to the unique difficulties experienced by elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes.
