ÄITI MURROSIKÄISEN TYTTÄRENSÄ SEKSUAALITERVEYDEN EDISTÄJÄNÄ : -12-16-vuotiaiden tyttöjen kokemuksia saamastaan seksuaaliterveyden ohjauksesta

Abstract

Vastuu tytön seksuaaliterveyden ohjaamisesta kuuluu ensisijaisesti vanhemmille. Nykyään murrosikäisen saatavilla on paljon tietoa seksuaaliterveydestä, mutta haasteeksi voi muodostua oikean ja väärän tiedon erottaminen, jolloin äidin antaman ohjauksen merkitys korostuu. Myös äidillä voi olla puutteellisia tietoja seksuaalisuudesta, minkä vuoksi kouluterveydenhuollon roolia seksuaaliterveyden edistämisessä ei voi unohtaa.

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli kuvata murrosikäisten tyttöjen omakohtaisia kokemuksia äideiltään saamastaan seksuaaliterveyden ohjauksesta. Opinnäytetyössä selvitettiin murrosikäisten tyttöjen käsityksiä seksuaaliterveydestä, heidän kokemuksiaan seksuaaliterveydestä keskustelemisesta ja kouluterveydenhuollon tukea seksuaaliterveyden ohjauksessa. Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin laadullista tutkimusmenetelmää käyttäen. Aineisto kerättiin teemahaastattelemalla kuutta murrosikäistä tyttöä. Aineisto analysoitiin induktiivista sisällönanalyysiä hyödyntäen.

Opinnäytetyön tuloksista ilmeni, että seksuaaliterveys ei ole käsitteenä tuttu. Seksuaalisuudesta keskusteleminen kotona oli vaihtelevaa. Seksuaalisuudesta puhuttiin yleensä äidin kanssa. Kouluterveydenhuollon rooli koettiin tärkeäksi osaksi tytön seksuaaliterveyden edistämistä.

Jatkotutkimusaiheiksi nousi äitien kokemuksien selvittäminen kyselytutkimuksen avulla. Toiminnallisena opinnäytetyönä voisi tehdä opaslehtisen äideille siitä, kuinka ottaa seksuaalisuus puheeksi murrosikäisen tyttärensä kanssa.

The parents have the primary responsibility for their daughters’ sexual health education. Today, there is a lot of information available about sexual health for adolescents. However, a challenge is to differentiate the correct information from the incorrect one so the mother’s role in her daughter’s sexual education is essential. In addition, the role of school health care must not be forgotten, because the mother’s knowledge of sexuality may be inadequate.

The aim of this thesis was to describe adolescent girls’ experiences of sexual education and guidance received from their mothers. This study examined adolescent girls’ conceptions of sexual health and their experiences of discussions concerning sexual health. Furthermore, this study analyzed the support of school health care in sexual education. The method of the study was the qualitative analysis. The data was collected by theme-interviewing six teenage girls. The results were analyzed by using induc-tive content analysis.

The results of the study showed that ‘sexual health’ as a concept is not familiar amongst adolescent girls. The amount of discussions at home about sexuality varied. Generally, the girls had had these discussions with their mother rather than with their father. Also, the role of school health care was considered essential in promoting the girls’ sexual health.

Further studies on this topic could be to examine mothers’ experiences by interviewing them. As a functional study, a guide leaflet could be compiled for mothers how to dis-cuss sexuality with their teenage daughters.
