Palvelujen ulkopuolella olevien yksinäisten vanhusten kokemukset ja toiveet sosiaalisen toiminnan järjestämisestä

Abstract

Tässä opinnäytetyössä tutkittiin vanhuusiän yksinäisyyttä, sen ilmenemismuotoja, syitä ja seurauksia. Lisäksi selvitettiin erään kunnan ikäihmisten toiveita Ikäkeskuksessa järjestettävälle toiminnalle. Haastatteluissa selvitettiin miten ikäihmiset kokevat yksinäisyyden, tuntevatko he itsensä yksinäisiksi, ja millaista toimintaa he haluavat Ikäkeskuksessa järjestettävän.

Tutkimusta varten haastateltiin neljää yksin asuvaa ikäihmistä syksyllä 2014. Tutkittavat ilmoittivat vapaaehtoisuutensa palauttamalla saatekirjeen, jonka lähetin osalle kunnan 75-vuotiaista ikäihmisistä. Tutkimus tehtiin henkilökohtaisena haastatteluna, ja tulosten tulkinnassa käytettiin sisällön analyysiä.

Haastatellut vanhukset olivat aktiivisia eivätkä yhtä lukuun ottamatta kokeneet yksinäisyyttä. Tutkimuksessa ilmeni, että sekä kunta sekä kunnassa toimivat järjestöt ovat järjestäneet hyvin ikäihmisten sosiaalista toimintaa ja ikäihmiset ovat siihen tyytyväisiä. Ikäihmiset kokivat Ikäkeskuksen toiminnan ennemmin neuvoja ja palveluja tuottavana, eikä toimintaa järjestävänä yksikkönä. Ikäihmiset toivoivat Ikäkeskukseen pääasiassa asiantuntijaluentoja, keskustelupiirejä sekä ikäihmisten tietokonekurssin.

The purpose of this thesis was to study loneliness among the elderly. The aim was to find out how it is manifested and its causes and consequences. The data were collected by interviews and the aim was to find out whether the elderly feel lonely and how they experience loneliness. The thesis also charts the elderly’s wishes for the activities arranged by the Centre for the Aged.

Four elderly people were interviewed for the thesis in autumn 2014. The interviewees volunteered for the interviews by returning a letter, which was sent to part of the elderly over 75 years in a municipality. The interviews were carried out as personal interviews and the data were analysed by content analysis.

The interviewed elderly were active and only one of them felt lonely. The results show that the municipality and the societies in the municipality have organised a lot of social activities for the elderly and the elderly were satisfied with them. In their opinion the Centre for the Aged acted as a service and counselling provider rather than an organisation providing social activities. They hoped that the Centre for the Aged would organise expert lectures, discussion circles and computer courses for the elderly.
