Omaisten tyytyväisyys vanhusten hoitoon Rauman vanhainkodeissa

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää omaisten tyytyväisyyttä vanhusten laitoshoitoon raumalaisissa vanhainkodeissa. Tavoitteena oli kehittää hoidon laatua näissä vanhainkodeissa. Tutkimukseen osallistuivat Kaunisjärven, Marttilanmäen ja Uudenlahden vanhainkodit. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin puolistrukturoiduilla kyselylomakkeilla vanhainkotien asukkaiden omaisilta (n=95). Vastausprosentti oli 52. Strukturoitu aineisto analysoitiin tilastollisesti. Avoimien kysymysten tuottaman aineiston analysoinnissa käytettiin sisällönanalyysia. Tulosten mukaan vanhusten kohtelu vanhainkodeissa oli ystävällistä, kunnioittavaa ja arvostavaa. Perustarpeista huolehdittiin omaisten mielestä hyvin. Omaiset kaipasivat läheisilleen enemmän henkilökunnan aikaa, apua ja läsnäoloa. Ratkaisuksi he ehdottivat vastauksissaan henkilökuntamäärän lisäämistä. Omatoimisuuden tukemista pidettiin hyvänä asiana, mutta omaisten mielestä vanhukset eivät saaneet vanhainkodeissa tarpeeksi toimintakykyään ylläpitävää liikuntaa. Ulkoilun vähäisyys huolestutti omaisia. Yli puolet omaisista koki saavansa olla riittävästi mukana vanhusten hoidossa yhdessä henkilökunnan kanssa. Tulosten mukaan omaiset toivoivat enemmän oma-aloitteista informaatiota hoitajilta läheisensä tilasta ja arkipäiväisistä kuulumisista. Tuloksista ilmeni, että omaiset olivat pääosin tyytyväisiä vanhusten laitoshoitoon raumalaisissa vanhainkodeissa. Tulokset paljastivat kuitenkin, että yhteistyön kehittämiseen kaivattiin uusia keinoja. Jatkotutkimuksella voitaisiin selvittää, miten omaisten ja hoitohenkilökunnan välinen yhteistyö vanhusten laitoshoidossa saataisiin sujuvammaksi.

The purpose of this thesis was to determine how satisfied the relatives are with the institutional care of the elderly in Rauma. The aim of this thesis was to improve the quality of the care in these nursing homes. Three homes for the elderly (Kaunisjärvi, Marttilanmäki and Uusilahti) took part in this study. Research material was gathered from the family members of the residents by a half-structured questionnaire (n=95). Response percentage was 52. The structured material was analysed statistically. Open questions were analysed using content analysis. According to the results the elderly were treated in a friendly and respectful way. Also the basic needs were properly taken care of. The relatives of the clients wished that the personnel would devote more time to their loved ones, helping them and merely to be there for them. They suggested that the number of personnel should be increased. They thought it was good to support the independent initiative of the elderly. However, relatives thought there was not enough exercise or outdoor recreation organized for the elderly. Over half of the relatives considered that they were adequately involved in the care of their loved ones. Furthermore, relatives hoped for more spontaneous information of their loved ones from the personnel. The results revealed that the relatives were mainly satisfied with the care of the elderly. However, new ways of cooperation between relatives and personnel should be developed. A further study could concentrate on the improvement of the cooperation between the relatives and the personnel.
