Tiivistelmä
The purpose of the thesis was to organize an event for International House Joensuu and Stay and Live in North Karelia project (ESF+ 2025-2027) during the Week Against Racism in 2026. The aim of the event was to provide the commissioner with a platform to gather data on the experiences of racism, inequality, and participation to enable the commissioner to implement this data into decision-making processes on the municipal level. The goal of the author of this work was to gain a deeper and practical understanding of managing and planning events and strengthen professional network and competence on the theoretical concepts explored in the thesis.
The theoretical framework offers an overview of different concepts on topics of event management and planning, good population relations, and racism. It also includes a justification of a need for creating platforms and channels for the immigrant population of Joensuu to communicate their needs and experiences to the decision-making bodies.
This thesis provides a description of the planning process, the implementation of the event, and an evaluation of the whole process with reference to the theoretical background. The data gathered at the event is not part of the thesis report.
The evaluation of the event’s planning and implementation suggests that the event in question was successful in both achieving its objectives and according to the experience of the event attendees. The final part of the thesis outlines the reflections on the project and recommendations for future possible implementations.
