Aineistoesittelyt kirjastoissa : Oripään kunnankirjaston aineistoesittelyn vuosikello

Abstract

Tässä työssä käsitellään aineistoesittelyitä kirjaston palvelumuotona. Aineistoesittelyllä tarkoitetaan tapoja, joilla kirjaston kokoelman osia pystytään tuomaan esille. Kirjanäyttelyt voivat olla laajoja kokonaisuuksia niille varatussa tilassa tai ne voivat olla muutaman kirjan näyttelyitä hyllyillä.

Työssä keskustellaan kirjastojen palvelukonseptin yleisestä muutoksesta. Kirjaston pitää pysyä mukana muuttuvassa yhteiskunnassa, jos se haluaa säilyttää nykyisenkaltaisen roolinsa. Asiakaslähtöisyys on keskeinen näkökulma kirjaston muutoksessa.

Lisäksi määritellään aineistoesittelyä, pohditaan sen merkitystä eri näkökulmista sekä esitellään aineistoesittelyn tapoja ja aiheita. Aineistoesittelyn merkitystä kirjastoille voidaan perustella asiakaslähtöisyydellä, palvelutarjonnalla, markkinoinnilla, kokoelmien avaamisella sekä asiantuntijuudella. Mahdolliset aiheet on jaoteltu viiteen eri pääkategoriaan.

Työn tavoitteena oli tuottaa aineistoesittelyjen vuosikello, joka on tarkoitettu käytettäväksi Oripään kunnankirjastossa. Vuosikellon tarkoituksena on helpottaa aineistoesittelyjen kokoamista pienessä yhden hengen kirjastossa. Vuosikelloon on kerätty kuukausittain henkilöitä, joilla on syntymäpäivä kyseisenä kuukautena, ajankohtaisia teemapäiviä ja kalenteripyhiä sekä erilaisia ajankohtaisia aiheita.

Vuosikellon on tarkoitus edistää aineistoesittelyjen määrää ja lisätä aineistoesittelyt vakituisten palveluiden joukkoon. Vuosikellon ei ole tarkoitus olla kattava esitys, vaan tarjota lähtökohta palveluvalikoiman laajentamiseen.

The purpose of this study was to discuss the meaning and importance of displays in libraries. Library collections are often too vast for patrons to browse. Library displays can be used to help patrons familiarise themselves with the library collections. Displays can be fairly large instalments or they can be just a couple of books on display on the shelves. However, the purpose is the same.

The first part of this study discusses the change in library culture in general. Libraries need to respond to the challenges brought up by information society. Customer-oriented services are in significant role. Second part discusses the definitions, meaning, practices and ideas for library displays. Different views on displays are presented. Displays can be a helpful service in the transition towards customer-oriented libraries. Displays can be used as a means for marketing library and they are a helpful tool in presenting the library collections to patrons. In addition, displays make the expertise of library staff visible to patrons. In this study, the possible topics for library displays are divided into five main categories: persons; seasons and holidays; hobbies, science, arts and crafts; literature and literary characters; topicalities and history. Categories are partly overlapping.

In the third part, a compilation of possible topics is presented. The possible topics are divided into different tables according to the month they most naturally belong to. The divide is not binding and topics can be used interchangeably as well. In addition, a short presentation of Oripää library is provided.

The aim of this study was to gather a compilation of ways and topics that can be used when planning library displays. It is supposed to be used as a helpful tool in providing patrons with a regular service of displays in Oripää library.
