MAAHANMUUTTAJATYÖN ERITYISKYSYMYKSIÄ : Työntekijöiden osaamistarpeet päivähoidossa

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää maahanmuuttajatyön erityiskysymyksiä sekä tutkia, miten venäläinen kulttuuri ilmenee työskentelyssä päivähoidossa. Lisäksi tavoitteena oli tutkia päivähoidon kasvattajien maahanmuuttajatyön osaamista ja työskentelyn hyviä käytäntöjä. Teoreettisena viitekehyksenä käytettiin Hofsteden kultuuriulottuvuusteoriaa sekä monikulttuurista työtä päivähoidossa.

Laadulliseen tutkimukseen kuului havainnointi, jota tehtiin Haminassa ja Kotkassa Koulutus- ja kehittämiskeskus Palmenian järjestämissä koulutuksissa ”Kohti kulttuurisensitiivisiä työkäytäntöjä” syksyllä 2013. Opinnäytetyö perustui koulutuksiin osallistuvin työntekijöiden kokemuksiin työskentelystä venäläistaustaisten perheiden kanssa. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa käsiteltiin sähköpostikyselyn vastauksia. Sähköpostikysely tehtiin Empowerment of Families with Children -hankkeen puitteissa venäläistaustaisten perheiden kanssa työskenteleville päivähoidon työntekijöille Haminassa ja Kotkassa.

Tutkimuksen tuloksina maahanmuuttajatyön erityiskysymyksiin kuuluvat vuorovaikutus, kulttuurierot ja rakenteelliset erot. Hofsteden teorian kautta on käsitelty venäläisen kulttuurin ominaispiirteitä. Saatiin seuraava kuvaus: venäläinen kulttuuri on voimakkaasti yhteisöllinen, siinä on suuri valtaetäisyys ja siinä siedetään huonosti epävarmuutta. Venäläisessä kulttuurissa on sekä maskuliinisia että feminiinisiä piirteitä. Laajaan maahanmuuttajatyöosaamiseen kuuluvat tiedot, tiedostaminen, taidot, asenteet ja toiminta. Hankkeen aikana kokeiltua kulttuuritulkkitoimintaa pidetääntehokkaana työkäytäntönä.

The purpose of this research was to clarify the specific issues related to work with im-migrants and the occurrence of Russian culture in work in child day care. The latter issue is to be examined from the employee's point of view. The purpose of this re-search was also to study the day care educators' work competence and skills at work with immigrants and investigate the good practices of their work. The theoretical framework of this thesis was based on Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory and multi-cultural work in child day care. The qualitative research that was presented in this thesis was based on the observa-tion of the training module named "Towards culturally sensitive practices" and organ-ized by Palmenia Centre for Continuing Education in the autumn of 2013 inHamina and Kotka. The thesis was based on the experience of the workers who participated in this training and their cooperating with the families with the Russian background. In addi-tion, the research is based on results from the e-mail survey, which was conducted within the project Empowerment of Families with Children. The respondents of this sur-vey were also day care educators working with families with the Russian background in Hamina and Kotka. According to the results, the specific issues of work with immigrants are such as inter-action, cultural differences and structural differences. The research also contains an analysis of Russian culture’s characteristics through Hofstede's theory, according to which the Russian culture has a strong sense of community, large Power distance and strong uncertainty avoidance. This culture has both masculine and feminine traits. The extensive competence of work with immigrants includes knowledge, awareness, skills, attitudes and actions. A cultural interpreter activity, which was an experiment within this project, revealed itself as an effective work practice.
