Seksuaalisuuden polku : Materiaalia terveydenhoitajille

Abstract

Nuorille tarjotut seksuaalikasvatuksen materiaalit ovat pitkälti oppaita, joihin nuori voi tutustua omatoi-misesti. Seksuaalisuus on aiheena arka mutta oleellinen osa-alue ihmisen elämää. Väestöliiton internetpalvelussa olevassa mittarissa on kysymyksiä, jotka liittyvät itse seksin harrastamiseen, mutta osa myös seksiin varautumiseen, sen hyväksyttävyyteen, sopivaan seksin aloittamisen ajankohtaan ja muihin seksiin liittyviin asioihin. Nuorten kypsymättömyyden vuoksi heitä saattaa olla vaikea saada toimimaanvastuullisesti seksuaalikasvatuksen näkökulmasta. Nuori tarvitsee seksuaaliseen kehitykseensä tukea, riippumatta hänen kehityksensä vaiheesta.

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli luoda keskusteluun työväline seksuaalisuudesta puhumiseen nuorten kanssa. Tavoitteena oli saattaa työväline käyttöön keskustelutilanteisiin nuorten kanssa ja näin parantaa kommunikaatiota terveydenhoitajan ja hänen asiakkaansa välillä. Toimeksiantajanamme toimivat Etelä-Savon Ammattiopiston terveydenhoitajat. Työväline perustuu aiheesta aiemmin tuotettuun kirjallisuuteen ja tutkimustietoon. Samalla teimme yhteistyötä myös Etelä-Savon Ammattiopiston terveydenhoitajien kanssa ja otimme heidän toiveensa sekä tarpeensa huomioon.

Seksuaalisuuden polku on A4-kokoinen laminoitu, kaksiosainen kokonaisuus. A-puolella on polku, jonka varrella on seksuaalisuuden portaiden neljä viimeistä porrasta eri pysäkkeinä. Niiden varrella on erilaisia lausahduksia ja viittauksia tukemaan terveydenhoitajan ja nuoren välistä keskustelua. Työvälineessä on hyödynnetty myös nuoruuden vaiheita, jotka ilmentyvät polun varrella. Työvälineen tarkoitus on nimenomaan tukea keskustelua, ei ylläpitää sitä. B-puolella on koosteet jokaisesta pysäkistä ja ohjeistusta työvälineen käyttöön. Raporttiosuudessa on käsitelty seksuaalisuutta ja muita siihen liittyviä aiheita, se tukee työvälinettä ja antaa tarvittaessa lisätietoa aiheesta.

The sexual education material offered to the youth of today are mostly guides, that the youth is expected to explore all by themselves. Sexuality is a very sensitive subject, but a very important and essential part of human life. The Family Federation of Finland provides a web forum where young people can ask about sex and sexuality. Young people are asked about preparing for sex, the acceptability of sex, the right time to start having sex and other matters regarding sexuality. Because of the immaturity of young people, it is challenging to make them act sexually responsibly. A young person needs support for their sexual development, regardless of their stage in sexual development.

The purpose of our thesis was to create a tool for conversation about sexuality between a public health nurse and their client, which in this case is a young person. The goal was to have our tool used in actual conversational situations and therefore improve communication. The commissioners of our thesis were the public health nurses of the South Savo Vocational College. The tool for conversation is based on literature and previous studies of the subject. During the process we co-operated with the public health nurses of South Savo Vocational College and took into account their hopes and needs for the tool.

The tool of conversation consists of two different parts, part A and part B, which are printed on laminated cards in A4 size. Part A presents the path as the four last steps of sexuality stairs in the form of four different stops. Each stop features different statements and a synopsis of the step in question in order to support the conversation between the public health nurse and the young person. The developmental stages of youth are also depicted alongside the path. The purpose of the tool is to support the conversation, not sustain it. Part B of the tool gives abstracts of each stop and guidance for the use of the tool. In the report we have covered sexuality and other subjects affecting a persons’ sexuality. It supports the tool and provides more information on the subject when needed.
