In this thesis, a comprehensive analysis of the Kajaani Haka U17 football team's 2024 season was conduct-ed. The study focused on key performance variables such as ball possession retention, set pieces, and one versus one (1v1) football player duels. Observational quantitative research was employed, analyzing ten matches to identify patterns and weaknesses that contributed to the team's relegation from the U17 Ykkönen league. Game footage was analyzed using VeoLive technology, and data was processed with PSPP analysis software. Spearman's Rank-Order correlation coefficient was used to identify patterns and corre-lations between game variables and match outcomes.
The findings revealed significant correlations between match success and variables such as attacking free kicks, defensive corners, and 1v1 duels. It was found that effective set-piece execution, individual duels, and maintaining possession in advanced areas of the football field were crucial for match success. The analysis highlighted the team's struggles with set-piece execution and individual duels, which among other elements contributed to their relegation.
Based on these insights, it is recommended that targeted training programs and tactical adjustments be developed to address the identified weaknesses. Emphasis should be placed on improving set-piece exe-cution, both in attacking and defensive situations, as well as improving individual duel performance. By implementing these strategies, Kajaani Haka U17 team can improve their performance and avoid future relegation.
