Tiivistelmä
This thesis examines the Vaasa startup ecosystem in Finland with a particular emphasis on what opportunities there are for migrant students to become entrepreneurs. Vaasa, with its high level of youth and university students, provides a rich setting to study how young migrants can get involved and take advantage of the entrepreneurial infrastructure of the area. The research investigates the availability and accessibility of critical resources such as government support, startup capital, mentorship, and cultural factors that influence success in entrepreneurship. An empirical part of the study focuses on a quantitative survey among 107 participants whose research was mainly comprised of migrant students sharing their experience, aspirations, and challenges about employment and entrepreneurship in Vaasa.
The research recommends interventions targeted at enhancing access to language education, networking, practical training, and startup support mechanisms for an inclusive and thriving entrepreneurial environment. This research contributes practical insights for policymakers, educators, and support organizations aiming to strengthen entrepreneurial pathways for migrant students in Finland.
