This degree thesis was a part of the GROW-project, a project that is aimed to improve the caregivers’ ethical competence. The purpose of the study was to research how caregivers confront a dying child from both a caregivers and a parent’s perspective. To get a more comprehensive result the study didn’t have any central questions, instead the study focused on a theme. The theory of suffering by Katie Eriksson, was used as a theoretical framework. This study was done as a literature overview and based on a novel, based on a true story and three articles that were analysed using a content analysis as method. The result showed that the communication between parents and the child is important and also that there is many was to communicate. The caregivers thought that the roughest communication was with the parents and that the cause of it was lack of knowledge in communication. Emotions had a big part of the refute, of the dying child, not only the parents that felt grief, also the caregivers felt sorrow. The caregivers thought the work was emotionally heavy and that for felt that they were suffering because of the work, the parent on the other hand felt suffer because the feeling of emptiness and insufficient. The mutual for both the caregivers and the parents was that they both brought up what was best for the child and wanted to keep a good quality of the child’s life till the end.
