Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this final year project was to study the Linux security mechanism. The aim was to learn the basic concepts of the Linux file structure, how security is implemented and propose more methods to enhance the system security.
The method used in this project was combining theories with the current software to design a secure Linux system. A list of the security mechanisms in the operating system was reviewed. After that, based on the security vulnerabilities, some techniques and software are recommended to maintain security for the system.
A number of strategies were found throughout this project. Some of them require modifications from inside the OS’s kernel and file system, and some need external sources.
Some suggestions for improvement in this project is finding more security methods to make Linux OS more secure and complete. The methods should be implemented in a real machine and examine the results.
