This thesis is about how to face and communicate with children at a hospital and how play therapy helps children, family and relatives when hospitalized. My commissioner for the thesis is Project liv, an association that strives to improve the hospital stays for children with a long-term illness.
The purpose of this thesis is to create joy for children at hospitals and that there should be suggestions for different activities they can do. At the hospital the children get a superhero cape from Project liv. The goal of my thesis is to create a superhero manual which the children can use in combination with the superhero cape. To create this manual, I interviewed four nurses that work with long-term ill children, I did this interview to get insight into what kinds of tasks the children would be able to complete at a hospital.
I hope the manual brings joy and shortens the perceived amount of time in the hospital.
In this thesis I used narrative analysis as a method to analyze the answers I got from the nurses. In this thesis the theoretic part consists of how to communicate with children at a hospital. I have also discussed play therapy, what it is about and how it helps hospitalized children.
With the help of the answers I got from the nurses I created the superhero manual with seven tasks that the children can complete during the hospitalization, they get to do one task per day.
The target group for the manual are children from three to ten years old
