Tiivistelmä
Kehitysmaissa katulasten määrä on suuri. Näissä maissa erilaiset järjestöt auttavat katulapsia selviämään pois kadulta päihteiden ja prostituution parista auttamalla lapset kouluun ja kodittomat lapset lastenkoteihin. Tutkimuksemme tavoitteena on kartoittaa Nicaraguan katulapsityötä. Tutkimuksemme on kvalitatiivinen tutkimus. Ongelmana on saada katulapsityöhön tukea valtiolta, minkä vuoksi järjestöt toimivat lähinnä ulkomaisen rahoituksen avulla. Järjestöjen työn edistämiseen ja tulevaisuuden turvaamiseksi tarvitaan lisää rahoitusta. Aineistonkeruun ja kirjallisen materiaalin osalta espanjankielen taidon puutteet vaikeuttivat tutkimustyötä. Teorialähteenä käytimme pääasiassa verkkoaineistoja, koska painettua kirjallisuutta on heikosti saatavilla. There are lots of street children in developed countries. In these countries many different organizations help the children away from the streets and away from prostitution by offering them a chance to go to school and by bringing the homeless children into orphanages. The aim of this study is to find out the work done for the street children in Nicaragua. We did our practical training in Nicaragua in 2005 and got to know the local culture during that time. We returned in 2006 to carry out our research. In the research we found out what the work done with the street children is and who does it. We wanted also to find out how the staffs understand the definition of a street child and how the staff sees the life of the children. Our research is qualitative. We used an open questionnaire as the method for collecting data. It was translated into Spanish and we asked nine different organizations who work with street children to fill it in. Theory about street children, work with street childrenand the social and socioeconomic background information related to them was collected to support the research. According to our research the work done by the organizations is greatly needed in Nicaragua, because the street children need support to get away from the streets. Street children suffer often from prostitution and violence. The problem is to get financial support from the government, and that is why the organizations function mainly with foreign founding's. Moremoney is needed to develop the work of the organizations and to secure their existence in the future. Our lack of Spanish skills complicated the collecting and analyzing of the data. Mainly web sources where used in the theory part because there is only little printed material available.
