Tiivistelmä
This practical work is meant to be used as a tool for the volunteers who are responsible ofdirecting children in international activities, mainly summer camps. It aims to answer the questions of what the volunteers may have when facilitating activities and programs in an international setting. This work was completed in collaboration with the non-governmental organization Pinskut, which is a youth organization that strives to combine pedagogical approach with the leisure activities.
Working in the international setting has its own challenges, and since many volunteers who go to these kind of events may lack experience in how to approach the kind of situations one might find in them, the demand for this type of project is real.
The final product is a collection of ideas and perspectives that benefit the volunteer in their work. It combines the practical knowledge gained from the experiences in the international camp of Cyprus with the theoretical understanding of social pedagogy. The practices, concepts and other models that are taught during the degree programme of social services certainly fit with the ideas, goals and principles of international activity based learning and interaction.
In the future, Pinskut are free to use the product that was made during this project and possibly work further on it. Perhaps it can be used as a steppingboard of something greater and more comprehensive guidebook or other type of product.
