The aim of this thesis was to document the renovation of an old conserved building and the related work steps. The subject of the work is a brick house built in 1937. The house of the case was one of the apartments at the Pori housing fair in 2018 and the house was awarded the Best House award.
The building has two living floors, a ground floor and a garage. The building has not been in use for several years and the goal was to renovate the building to be habitable. The exterior of the building had been well preserved, but the interior of the building had suffered greatly.
The client of the thesis is a private individual. The purpose of the work was to create a document for the client about the renovation of the case based on the theory of reconstruction. The thesis includes own pictures and observations from the construction process. The work dealt with the impact of conserved building on the renovation of the case, as well as today's building regulations, according to which a new similar building should be built.
I experience this an interesting topic, because I have been involved in the process from the beginning. It would be important to understand the value of old buildings and to try to cherish the old building tradition. There are several different ways to renovate a historically valuable building and this thesis presents the renovation of a single case.
