Tiivistelmä
During the summer and fall 2013 a survey regarding consumer behavior and usage of disposable income was conducted on a population segment often neglected because of their alleged chronically bad financial situation; students. The main focus was on foreign students studying in Kuopio campuses of Savonia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Eastern Finland.
The research was executed in partnership with the City of Kuopio in order to give them a better understanding of the services used by the foreign degree-, doctoral- and exchange students residing in Kuopio area, and to improve the services available in the area.
The main focus of the study was on the distribution of the monthly budget of the students and the usage of the services offered by the City of Kuopio as well as other services, such as bars and restaurants, available in the city.
Even though the usage of services provided by the City of Kuopio was relatively low among the students, the research proved that there were differences in monthly budget and the usage of it on consumer goods and certain services depending on the nationality, form of study, age and gender. Based on the results, improvement suggestions have been made.
