Lasitekokeita tutkimalla saavutettiin toivottu lopputulos, jonka pohjalta valmistettiin lautasissa käytetty lasite. Lopuksi tuotteelle tehtiin kestävä elinkaarimallinnus ja pohdittiin kokonaisvaltaista onnistumista. Opinnäytetyön tuloksena syntyi ruokalautaset 12 henkilölle asiakkaan toiveiden mukaisesti sekä kestävän elinkaarimallinnuksen periaatteita kunnioittaen. Lautasista tehtiin myös astianpesukoneen ja mikroaaltouunin kestäviä. The aim of the thesis was to design and manufacture dinner plates for a private customer and for the author´s own future company. The work was based on the customer´s assignment and the author´s own interest in the production and sustainable design for dinner plates. The starting point for the work was the dessert plates made by the author in 2020, on the basis of which the shape of the dinner plates was developed. The material was collected through discussions and a survey with the customer, and a comparison of the small series products already on the market was made. In support of the functional part, information on sustainable ceramic design and glazing was sought and lessons learned were utilized. The plates were made by solid casting because of its efficiency and uniformity, and it also pleases the author as a way of working.
The thesis was linked to an optional design project in which an auxiliary mold, template and molds were made from gypsum. In addition, in the project the casting clay was mixed and the test pieces were cast, and finally a plate prototype was made.
By examining the glaze experiments, the desired result was obtained on the basis of which the glaze used in the plates was prepared. Finally, the product underwent sustainable lifecycle modeling and the overall level of success was considered. As a result of the thesis, the dinner plates were created for 12 people in accordance with the customer´s wishes and respecting the principles of sustainable life cycle modeling. The plates were also made dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe.
