The difficulties encountered by local companies in the employment of foreign workers

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis was to explore in detail and comprehensively the main difficulties faced by local companies in the process of hiring immigrants as well as the difficulties of the immigrants themselves when searching for employment. The study was commissioned by the municipality of Seinäjoki. In the introduction, the history of immigration in Finland is explored, including the main reasons why the immigrants move to Finland. Further, the adversities faced by them in the Finnish job market are delved into, including the hardships immigrant face when trying to find jobs. Throughout the research conducted using two online surveys, one for the employer and another one for the employee, it was found that due to the natural difficulty of learning Finland’s native language, the immigrants have a difficult time adapting to the Finnish society. While some companies, can be overly cautious and avoid hiring immigrants. The survey stayed open from 02.12.2022 to 02.12.2022 and 20 responses were gathered in total.
