The discourse surrounding sustainable purchasing has gained significant traction in recent years and now more than ever have people become really interested in the topic. Purchasing has been deemed to have an important role in a company’s sustainability endeavours and that is why it has been noted as an especially important topic to study on. Moreover, the topic of measuring suppliers’ sustainability is one that does not have a lot of research conducted on it yet making it rather untapped ground for a study.
This research is being conducted as literature review, which means it cites its information mainly from scientific sources like Google scholar and Janet Finna. The main goal of this research is to learn more about existing literature about the chosen topic and bring knowledge to the people about how supplier sustainability can be measured. The research objectives were to find about the benefits of sustainable purchasing, look for how supplier can be measured, find what they should be measured on and see how a company can look to build a measuring system for sustainability. The collected theory from literature and articles about these topics make up the bulk of the research.
The results of this research were compact. While it was relatively easy to find information about sustainable purchasing and measuring suppliers separately finding information about them combined appeared to be quite difficult. Nevertheless, information was acquired from various sources and research was adapted into the work by utilizing different Microsoft office tools. As a result, several benefits of sustainable purchasing were highlighted as well as different ways supplier sustainability can be measured. From that examples were given about how one can go on about choosing measurement indicators and building a supplier sustainability measuring system.
