The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the employees of deafblinds and the sign language interpreters work with ageing deafblind clients. The subscriber of the work is The Finnish Deafblind Association, Communication Unit and the Head of Communication Unit Riitta Lahtinen.
The objective of the thesis is to find out solutions which can be used when working as an interpreter with ageing deafblind people or deafblind people who also have memory disorders. The research questions of this thesis are:
1. Are there any compatible solutions that you can use with every deafblind client when working as an interpreter?
2. Is it possible to increase co-operation between interpreters and employees who work with ageing deafblind clients?
3. When working as an interpreter with ageing deafblind people, what else is appropriate to do beside interpreting?
This thesis was executed by using semi-structured theme interview. Participants of the interviews were: eight deafblinds, three sign language interpreters and three employees who work at the Tampere Deafblind Rehability Center.
This thesis provides practical methods and solutions for working with deafblind people. This thesis can be useful for the subscriber, The Finnish Deafblind Association, the sign language interpreters, the employees who work with deafblind clients and the deafblind people themselves.
